Abstract: Due to the environmental legislation and regulations, manufacturing firms have realized the importance of adopting environmental friendly supply chain management (SCM) practices. In this paper, a mixed integer linear model is developed for a carbon footprint based reverse logistics network design. The proposed model aims at minimizing climate change (specifically, the CO2 footprint), and it employs reverse logistics activities to recover used products, hence combining the location/transportation decision problem. The proposed model is validated by examining a case study from the plastic sector.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a model for effective risk management in the context of outsourcing, and provide a case study of outsourcing at Hewlett-packard, which shows what can be achieved if managers use the right criteria for their decisions.
Abstract: A significant feature of business management in the 1990s has been the practice of outsourcing. Firms and public sector bodies have reconsidered where the boundary of their organisation should be set, and passed to third parties responsibility for many business activities. However, many firms have been disappointed with the results they have achieved from outsourcing, not least when it has concerned high profile functions such as information technology. Part of the reason for this disappointment, it is argued, lies in the methodologies (or lack of them) which have been employed by managers. Very few have taken into account the main risks of the practice or identified the required safeguards. This article seeks to address these shortcomings by presenting a model for effective risk management. The article also provides a case study – outsourcing at Hewlett‐Packard – which shows what can be achieved if managers use the right criteria for their decisions.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored managerial efforts in reverse supply chains (RSC), where the focus is on the capture and exploitation of used products and materials, and found that investment in the reverse supply chain should not be made in isolation, but instead must be integrated with investments selected to improve the forward supply chain.

TL;DR: The findings indicate that the more detailed information shared between firms, the lower the total cost, the higher the order fulfillment rate, and the shorter the order cycle time, which may reduce the demand uncertainty that firms normally encounter.
Abstract: As businesses adopt electronic commerce, information exchange between business partners within a supply chain becomes more essential. Information exchange is often considered when companies implement the Extranet. This study aims to analyze the impact of various levels of information sharing including order, inventory, and demand information, which is based on transaction costs. This study further examines the effects on supply chain performance in electronic commerce. Specifically, the multiagent simulation system Swarm is employed to simulate and analyze the buyer-seller correlation in sharing information among business partners in supply chains. Our findings indicate that the more detailed information shared between firms, the lower the total cost, the higher the order fulfillment rate, and the shorter the order cycle time. In other words, information sharing may reduce the demand uncertainty that firms normally encounter. Firms that share information between trading partners tend to transact with a reduced number of suppliers. In sum, this work illustrates the effects of various levels of information sharing on supply chain performance in electronic commerce.

Abstract: Much has been said of the importance of port and terminal integration in the supply chain. Authors have stressed the importance of agility to the port environment, which involves being proactive along supply chains, facilitation of intermodal integration, as well as organizational integration and partnership between ports and users. Despite the well articulated importance of the issues, little has been offered in terms of conceptualizations and empirical evidence of what really is meant by port/terminal integration in the supply chain, how such integration can be measured and quantified as well as the extent to which different ports/terminals in the world are integrated in the supply chain and competitive performance implications arising thereof. This paper aims to make a contribution in this respect by (i) reviewing the relevant literature on supply chain integration and port integration in the supply chain, (ii) conceptualizing measures for port/terminal integration in the supply chain, (iii) empiricall...
