TL;DR: In this paper, the decrease of reflectance of a metal sample for a photon that is incident normally on a rough surface and which creates a surface plasmon is computed from first-order perturbation theory.
Abstract: The decrease of reflectance of a thick metal sample for a photon that is incident normally on a rough surface and which creates a surface plasmon is computed from first-order perturbation theory. The metal is approximated by a bounded free-electron gas, and the dispersive properties of the surface collective mode are accounted for in the result.

TL;DR: The surface structure autocorrelation function of evaporated thick silver layers contains quasiperiodic terms due to preferred sizes and distances of surface irregularities as discussed by the authors, which determines the angular dependence of the electron induced surface plasmon radiation.

TL;DR: In this article, the probability of surface plasmon generation at a rough surface of a dielectric slab by means of first-order perturbation theory was calculated, and compared with the results of Crowell and Ritchie, who treated the special case of reflectance of free-electron-like metal.

TL;DR: In this article, the resonance effects associated with surface plasmon excitation (the excitation of evanescent electro-magnetic surface waves) which occur when light is reflected from metal gratings and rough surfaces are described.
