TL;DR: A practical implementation of the transparent clock is presented with the overall system architecture and detailed operation of each building block, and results show that the time error is limited below 30 ns for nodes that were connected by three switches.
Abstract: This paper addresses issues with time synchronization using the IEEE 1588-2008 for distributed measurement and control systems. A practical implementation of the transparent clock is presented with the overall system architecture and detailed operation of each building block. To verify the submicrosecond accuracy using the implemented devices, an experimental setup that was analogous to a practical distributed system has been built. Measured results from the experiment show that the time error is limited below 30 ns for nodes that were connected by three switches. It is remarkable that the results are observed in spite of large packet queuing delays that were introduced by a traffic generator. The discussion on sources of time error that was outlined here provides technical considerations to designing IEEE 1588 systems.

TL;DR: It is shown that by combining data mining algorithms with agent technologies, near real-time operation may be attained and a possible system architecture for this purpose is presented.
Abstract: : The IDDM project aims to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of data mining techniques in real-time intrusion detection and produce solutions for this purpose. Traditionally, data mining is designed to operate on large off-line data sets. Previous attempts to apply the discipline in real-time environments met with varying success. In this paper, we overview earlier attempts to employ data mining principles in intrusion detection and present a possible system architecture for this purpose. As a consequence, we show that by combining data mining algorithms with agent technologies, near real-time operation may be attained.

04 May 2015TL;DR: The principal components needed in a functional architecture for autonomous driving, along with reasoning for how they should be distributed across the architecture are presented.
Abstract: As the Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) of self-driving vehicles increase, it is necessary to investigate the Electrical/Electronic(E/E) system architectures for autonomous driving, beyond proof-of-concept prototypes. Relevant patterns and anti-patterns need to be raised into debate and documented. This paper presents the principal components needed in a functional architecture for autonomous driving, along with reasoning for how they should be distributed across the architecture. A functional architecture integrating all the concepts and reasoning is also presented.

TL;DR: This paper presents an architecture for context-aware service discovery and presents the system evaluation as a tradeoff between a) the increase of the quality of service discovery when context-awareness is taken into account and b) the extra cost/burden imposed by context management.

23 May 2006TL;DR: A new architecture and data model is proposed, CiteSeerx, that will overcome the existing problems as well as provide scalability and better performance plus new services and system features.
Abstract: CiteSeer is a scientific literature digital library and search engine which automatically crawls and indexes scientific documents in the field of computer and information science. After serving as a public search engine for nearly ten years, CiteSeer is starting to have scaling problems for handling of more documents, adding new feature and more users. Its monolithic architecture design prevents it from effectively making use of new web technologies and providing new services. After analyzing the current system problems, we propose a new architecture and data model, CiteSeerx. CiteSeerx that will overcome the existing problems as well as provide scalability and better performance plus new services and system features.
