TL;DR: The Smart Grid Architecture Model (SGAM) proposed in context of the European standardization mandate M/490 provides a promising basis for domainspecific architecture models and the idea of following a Model-Driven-Architecture (MDA)-approach to create such models, including requirements specification based on Smart Grid use cases is detailed in this contribution.
Abstract: The complexity in electrical power systems is continuously increasing due to its advancing distribution. This affects the topology of the grid infrastructure as well as the IT-infrastructure, leading to various heterogeneous systems, data models, protocols, and interfaces. This in turn raises the need for appropriate processes and tools that facilitate the management of the systems architecture on different levels and from different stakeholders’ view points. In order to achieve this goal, a common understanding of architecture elements and means of classification shall be gained. The Smart Grid Architecture Model (SGAM) proposed in context of the European standardization mandate M/490 provides a promising basis for domainspecific architecture models. The idea of following a Model-Driven-Architecture (MDA)-approach to create such models, including requirements specification based on Smart Grid use cases, is detailed in this contribution. The SGAM-Toolbox is introduced as tool-support for the approach and its utility is demonstrated by two real-world case studies.

TL;DR: This paper describes a preliminary attempt at using the Semantic Web paradigm, particularly the Web Ontology Language (OWL), for domain-specific engineering design knowledge representation in a multi-agent distributed design environment.
Abstract: This paper describes a preliminary attempt at using the Semantic Web paradigm, particularly the Web Ontology Language (OWL), for domain-specific engineering design knowledge representation in a multi-agent distributed design environment. Ontology-based modeling to the engineering design knowledge on the Semantic Web is proposed as a prelude to the meaningful agent communication and knowledge reuse for collaborative work among multidisciplinary organizations. Formal knowledge representation in OWL format extends traditional product modeling with capabilities of knowledge sharing and distributed problem solving, and is used as a content language within the FIPA-ACL (Agent Communication Language) messages in the proposed multi-agent system architecture. As an illustration, engineering design knowledge of automatic assembly systems for manufacturing electronic connectors, which contain a group of electro-mechanical components, is represented in OWL format, with its inherent structure-function-process relationships defined explicitly and formally, to facilitate semantic access and retrieval of electro-mechanical component information across different disciplines. The proposed approach is viewed as a promising knowledge-management method that facilitates the implementation of computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) in design of Semantic Web applications.

TL;DR: This article discusses architectural design at the conceptual/functional level of communication and entertainment services onboard a high-speed public transport system, such as ahigh-speed train, a transoceanic cruise ship, or even a mid- to long-range airplane.
Abstract: This article discusses architectural design at the conceptual/functional level of communication and entertainment services onboard a high-speed public transport system, such as a high-speed train, a transoceanic cruise ship, or even a mid- to long-range airplane. Existing commercial mobile communication services, such as AMPS and GSM, are inaccessible to passengers onboard these public transport systems. A hierarchical architecture is laid out to provide passengers with communication and entertainment services. Within this framework, the transport system itself becomes an entity of a mobile network whose connection with the infrastructure networks may be interfaced through either a land terrestrial microwave or a satellite communication system. The entire architecture is further divided into the mobile subsystem, the radio transport, and the land backbone network. Potential research topics are outlined.

TL;DR: A new approach is presented, in which clustering techniques are applied to support the user in the mapping activity, that accommodates the automatic clustering of the source model with the user's hypothesized knowledge about the system's architecture.
Abstract: A significant aspect in applying the reflexion method is the mapping of components found in the source code onto the conceptual components defined in the hypothesized architecture. To date, this mapping is established manually, which requires a lot of work for large software systems. In this paper, we present a new approach, in which clustering techniques are applied to support the user in the mapping activity. The result is a semi-automated mapping technique that accommodates the automatic clustering of the source model with the user's hypothesized knowledge about the system's architecture. This paper describes also a case study in which our semi-automated mapping technique has been applied successfully to extend a partial map of a real-world software application
