TL;DR: The results show that implementations of this architecture executing the projective coordinates version of the Montgomery scalar multiplication algorithm can compute elliptic curve scalar multiplications with arbitrary points in 0.21 msec in the field GF(2167).
Abstract: This work proposes a processor architecture for elliptic curves cryptosystems over fields GF(2m). This is a scalable architecture in terms of area and speed that exploits the abilities of reconfigurable hardware to deliver optimized circuitry for different elliptic curves and finite fields. The main features of this architecture are the use of an optimized bit-parallel squarer, a digit-serial multiplier, and two programmable processors. Through reconfiguration, the squarer and the multiplier architectures can be optimized for any field order or field polynomial. The multiplier performance can also be scaled according to system's needs. Our results show that implementations of this architecture executing the projective coordinates version of the Montgomery scalar multiplication algorithmcan compute elliptic curve scalar multiplications with arbitrary points in 0.21 msec in the field GF(2167). A result that is at least 19 times faster than documented hardware implementations and at least 37 times faster than documented software implementations.

TL;DR: In this article, an Internet-and Web-based service-oriented system for machine availability monitoring and process planning is proposed for real-time machine availability and execution status monitoring during metal cutting operations, both locally or remotely.
Abstract: Cloud manufacturing as a trend of future manufacturing would provide cost-effective, flexible and scalable solutions to companies by sharing manufacturing resources as services with lower support and maintenance costs. Targeting the Cloud manufacturing, the objective of this research is to develop an Internet- and Web-based service-oriented system for machine availability monitoring and process planning. Particularly, this paper proposes a tiered system architecture and introduces IEC 61499 function blocks for prototype implementation. By connecting to a Wise-ShopFloor framework, it enables real-time machine availability and execution status monitoring during metal-cutting operations, both locally or remotely. The closed-loop information flow makes process planning and monitoring feasible services for the Cloud manufacturing.

TL;DR: An architecture that allows large numbers of entities from disparate organizations to interact in such a world, in real time, and over large geographic distances is described, along with various design decisions and the reasoning behind them.
Abstract: Many tools and techniques have been developed to address specific aspects of interacting in a virtual world. Few have been designed with an architecture that allows large numbers of entities from disparate organizations to interact in such a world, in real time, and over large geographic distances. A system architecture that does this is described. The key technologies that have made these virtual worlds possible are discussed, and it is explained and how the technologies fit into the architecture. A sample implementation of this architecture, the SIMulation NETworking (SIMNET) system, is then presented, along with various design decisions and the reasoning behind them. >

TL;DR: This retrospective on a decade-plus of software architectureResearch examines the maturation of the software architecture research area by tracing the types of research questions and techniques used at various stages and how results build up over time.
Abstract: Over the past decade, software architecture research has emerged as the principled study of the overall structure of software systems, especially the relations among subsystems and components. From its roots in qualitative descriptions of useful system organizations, software architecture has matured to encompass broad explorations of notations, tools, and analysis techniques. Whereas initially the research area interpreted software practice, it now offers concrete guidance for complex software design and development. We can understand the evolution and prospects of software architecture research by examining the research paradigms used to establish its results. These are, for the most part, the paradigms of software engineering. We advance our fundamental understanding by posing research questions of several kinds and applying appropriate research techniques, which differ from one type of problem to another, yield correspondingly different kinds of results, and require different methods of validation. Unfortunately, these paradigms are not recognized explicitly and are often not carried out correctly; indeed not all are consistently accepted as valid. This retrospective on a decade-plus of software architecture research examines the maturation of the software architecture research area by tracing the types of research questions and techniques used at various stages. We will see how early qualitative results set the stage for later precision, formality, and automation and how results build up over time. This generates advice to the field and projections about future impact.
