TL;DR: The needs and requirements of SDMN are presented, with particular focus on the software-defined design for radio access networks, and it is argued that although SDN design is currently focusing on mobile core networks, extending SDN toRadio access networks would naturally be the next step.
Abstract: This article provides a brief overview on the current development of software-defined mobile networks (SDMNs). Software defined networking is seen as a promising technology to manage the complexity in communication networks. The need for SDMN comes from the complexity of network management in 5G mobile networks and beyond, driven by increasing mobile traffic demand, heterogeneous wireless environments, and diverse service requirements. The need is strong to introduce new radio network architecture by taking advantage of software oriented design, the separation of the data and control planes, and network virtualization to manage complexity and offer flexibility in 5G networks. Clearly, software oriented design in mobile networks will be fundamentally different from SDN for the Internet, because mobile networks deal with the wireless access problem in complex radio environments, while the Internet mainly addresses the packet forwarding problem. Specific requirements in mobile networks shape the development of SDMN. In this article we present the needs and requirements of SDMN, with particular focus on the software-defined design for radio access networks. We analyze the fundamental problems in radio access networks that call for SDN design and present an SDMN concept. We give a brief overview on current solutions for SDMN and standardization activities. We argue that although SDN design is currently focusing on mobile core networks, extending SDN to radio access networks would naturally be the next step. We identify several research directions on SDN for radio access networks and expect more fundamental studies to release the full potential of software-defined 5G networks.

TL;DR: A formal syntax and semantics for the DIPPER information state update language is defined, independent of particular programming languages, and incorporates procedural attachments for access to external resources using OAA.
Abstract: The DIPPER architecture is a collection of software agents for prototyping spoken dialogue systems. Implemented on top of the Open Agent Architecture (OAA), it comprises agents for speech input and output, dialogue management, and further supporting agents. We define a formal syntax and semantics for the DIPPER information state update language. The language is independent of particular programming languages, and incorporates procedural attachments for access to external resources using OAA.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a digital object and respository architecture for storing and disseminating digital library content, which includes support for heterogeneous data types, accommodation of new types as they emerge, aggregation of mixed, possibly distributed, data into complex objects, and the ability to specify multiple content disseminations of these objects.
Abstract: We describe a digital object and respository architecture for storing and disseminating digital library content. The key features of the architecture are: (1) support for heterogeneous data types; (2) accommodation of new types as they emerge; (3) aggregation of mixed, possibly distributed, data into complex objects; (4) the ability to specify multiple content disseminations of these objects; and (5) the ability to associate rights management schemes with these disseminations. This architecture is being implemented in the context of a broader research project to develop next-generation service modules for a layered digital library architecture.

TL;DR: In this article, a distributed computing system architecture and an associated method are disclosed for allowing the monitization of third-party network user bases, which includes a plurality of network connected distributed devices providing computing resources that can be utilized to process customer project tasks.
Abstract: A distributed computing system architecture and an associated method are disclosed for allowing the monitization of third-party network user bases. The distributed computing system includes a plurality of network connected distributed devices providing computing resources that can be utilized to process customer project tasks. Third-party network service providers can monitize their respective user bases by providing user identification information to the distributed processing system and by facilitating the inclusion of the computing resources related to their user bases within the distributed processing system. In this way, revenue generated from customer payments for project processing can be shared with the third party in relation to the resources made available to the distributed computing system. For example, an Internet-based free or low cost service provider, such as a provider offering free Internet access, e-mail, file sharing services or any other Internet-based service, can monitize its user base by offering services to its users at least in part in return for an agreement by the users to allow computing resources related to the users to be utilized by the distributed processing system.
