TL;DR: This contribution describes the current work on autonomous driving in the much more complex scenario of urban traffic or driver assistance systems like Intelligent Stop&Go, which includes the appropriate algorithms as well as approaches to control the various vision modules.
Abstract: Most computer vision systems for vehicle guidance developed in the past were designed for the comparatively simple highway scenario. Autonomous driving in the much more complex scenario of urban traffic or driver assistance systems like Intelligent Stop&Go are new challenges not only from the algorithmic but also from the system architecture point of view. This contribution describes our current work on these topics. It includes the appropriate algorithms as well as approaches to control the various vision modules.

TL;DR: This paper analyses historical developments in each of these three domains and shows that they experienced parallel development, and identifies six changes in the history of the modern enterprise that can be described as a shift in dominant design.

TL;DR: The paper answers questions for the Ensemble communication architecture by showing how, with help of the Nuprl formal system, configurations may be checked against specifications, and how optimized code can be synthesized from these configurations.
Abstract: Although building systems from components has attractions, this approach also has problems. Can we be sure that a certain configuration of components is correct? Can it perform as well as a monolithic system? Our paper answers these questions for the Ensemble communication architecture by showing how, with help of the Nuprl formal system, configurations may be checked against specifications, and how optimized code can be synthesized from these configurations. The performance results show that we can substantially reduce end-to-end latency in the already optimized Ensemble system. Finally, we discuss whether the techniques we used are general enough for systems other than communication systems.

TL;DR: A new neural architecture called PerAc witch is a systematic way to decompose the control of an autonomous robot in perception and action flows and can be used for landmark-based navigation on a mobile robot to learn without any a priori symbolic representation.

TL;DR: A number of researchers have developed formal languages and associated analysis tools for software architecture and a number of the representative results are described.
Abstract: Developing a good software architecture for a complex system is a critically important step for insuring that the system will satisfy its principal objectives. Unfortunately, today descriptions of software architecture are largely based on informal “box-and-line” drawings that are often ambiguous, incomplete, inconsistent, and unanalyzable. This need not be the case. Over the past decade a number of researchers have developed formal languages and associated analysis tools for software architecture. In this paper I describe a number of the representative results from this body of work.
