Abstract: The engine (55) has an eccentric tappet that is arranged in a piston rod bearing lug (2) or in a hoisting bearing lug of a piston rod (17). The eccentric tappet is moved along an effective length of the piston rod by torque, which is effected by movement of the piston rod. A changeable resistor affects an adjustment movement of the eccentric tappet and effects damped adjustment movement of the eccentric tappet. An independent claim is also included for a method for changing an adjustable compression ratio in a reciprocating internal combustion engine.

Abstract: In a high pressure fuel supply pump for transmitting rotation of a cam to a reciprocating plunger via a tappet and a retainer, a diametric force acting on the plunger is reduced. The pump includes the retainer disposed on the plunger and a return spring exerting an urging force on the retainer in a direction of the tappet. A clearance between a plunger leading end and a tappet bottom surface opposed thereto is set to be greater than a clearance between a retainer bottom surface and the tappet bottom surface opposed thereto, and a clearance between a retainer inside diameter section and a plunger peripheral surface section opposed thereto is set to be greater than a clearance between a retainer outside diameter section and a tappet inner wall opposed thereto.

A piston (90) is arranged in said container (50) in a displaceable manner for squeezing out liquid from the container (50) by exerting a pressure to the distal end of said piston (90). A tappet (92) that is configured in such a way that said tappet can rest on the distal end of the piston (90) is arranged in the housing (42) in a displaceable manner. Said tappet enables a force to be transmitted to the piston (90) in the proximal direction. A member (91) is allocated to the tappet (92) and can be displaced in relation thereto. The proximal end region of said member can be connected to the piston (90) in such a way that said member enables a force to be transmitted to the piston (90) in the proximal direction and enables a force to be transmitted to the piston (90) in the distal direction.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine has two intake valves for each cylinder which can be uncoupled from the respective tappets by drawing fluid under pressure out of a chamber interposed between each tappet and the respective valve. To each engine cylinder there are associated two intake valves, one of which is actuated only at high speed and high loads of the engine. The engine is deprived of the conventional throttle valve. The two intake conduits associated with each cylinder have different specific shapes.

Abstract: Friction losses in a motored 1.6L valve train can be reduced by roller tappets, by needle bearing inserts placed in the rocker arm/fulcrum contact and in the cam journals and by reducing spring tension. Friction reducing engine oil additives reduce valve train friction substantially, but oil viscosity has only a limited effect. These results can be quantitatively accounted for by a simple friction model based on lubrication theory. Both the model and the experimental results are consistent with the idea that the friction losses in the valve train are mainly due to boundary and mixed lubrication.
