TL;DR: An approach for telecommunications service creation in a SOA through service orchestration is detailed and illustrated by a use case for triple play (3P), investigating how service-oriented principles introduced in the business domains can extend into the telecom services domain.
Abstract: In response to fierce competition, telecom service providers re-engineer their IT and telecommunications services environment in order to offer a wide range of new value-added services faster and more cost efficiently. These organizations are adopting a service-oriented paradigm in order to rationalize the OSS and BSS infrastructure, introduce self-service systems and manage 3/sup rd/ party business-to-business interactions. This paper investigates how service-oriented principles introduced in the business domains can extend into the telecom services domain. An approach for telecommunications service creation in a SOA through service orchestration is detailed and illustrated by a use case for triple play (3P).

TL;DR: In this article, the authors take a unique look at telecom access and study the perceived impacts of direct access to telecom services, that is, telephone ownership at a household level at the "Bottom of the Pyramid" in five developing Asian countries.
Abstract: This paper takes a unique look at telecom access and studies the perceived impacts of direct access to telecom services, that is, telephone ownership at a household level at the ‘Bottom of the Pyramid’ in five developing Asian countries. It focuses on the perceived economic impact (positive or negative) of telecom ownership in terms of the potential to increase indirect income generation capacity or save on expenditure or transactions costs. The findings reveal that some telecom users do perceive the economic benefits of direct access to be high, but this finding is not seen across the board for a number of reasons explained. The paper is based on a large sample survey of telecom users at the BOP in Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Thailand. Section 2 reviews the existing literature on the impacts of telecommunication. Section 3 explains the study design and methodology, and examines the difficulties faced in conducting a study of this nature and the methodological innovations undertaken. Section 4 explores in detail the impacts of telecom services at the BOP in the five countries. Section 5 concludes, looking at the policy implications from the study.

TL;DR: In this article, the contribution of telecommunication services to aggregate economic growth in India is estimated by using a recent sample survey data from Karnataka State in South India, price and income determinants of demand for telecom services are estimated by capacity of telephone exchanges.
Abstract: This paper estimates the contribution of telecommunication (or telecom) services to aggregate economic growth in India. Estimated contribution is distinguished between public and private sectors to highlight the impact of telecom privatization on economic growth. Knowledge of policy determinants of demand of telecom services is shown to be essential to enhance growth contribution of telecom services. Using a recent sample survey data from Karnataka State in South India, price and income determinants of demand for telecom services are estimated by capacity of telephone exchanges Estimation results offer evidence for significant negative own price elasticity and positive income elasticity of demand for telecom services. In addition, survey data are used to show for non-economic factors that influence demand for telecom services including non-awareness of the usage and cost of value added services. These results have implications for design of a national policy for promotion of demand for telecom services and economic growth.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that the success of private investment depends on the creation of a regulatory mechanism that provides credible commitment, that is, providing both a set of rules and regulations that ensure prospective private investors a reasonable return on investment, as well as a governance mechanism that insures them against the possibility of arbitrary governmental discretion.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that the impact of competition and privatization on the telecom market ultimately depends on the political endowments of Chinese society and argue that current telecom restructuring was largely driven by domestic agendas.
