TL;DR: The authors examines the development of the ideas of the new Austrian school from its beginnings in Vienna in the 1870s to the present and focuses primarily on showing how the coherent theme that emerges from the thought of Carl Menger, Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, Ludwig Lachman, Israel Kirzner and a variety of new younger Austrians is an examination of the implications of time and ignorance for economic theory.

Abstract: Halliday's conception of Theme as “the starting-point of the message;…l what the clause is going to be about” is examined in application to natural texts, together with the related notion of topic as a narrative category. It is suggested that, while all ideational, interpersonal and textual elements comprising ‘multiple Themes’ may be regarded as points of departure of the message, only certain types of ideational Theme will tell us what the clause is about. Evidence for this view is sought by reference to participant roles. Theme and topic are seen to be distinct categories which may coincide in one realization, but only when this is a participant. As a consequence, it is proposed that ‘topical Theme’, if retained at all, be dissociated from identification with the first ideational element of the clause, since this is frequently not a participant. Other ideational Themes, such as circumstantials and attributes, are seen to fulfil specific discourse functions, independently of their syntactic real...

TL;DR: Michael King's Being Pakeha as discussed by the authors became a gentle Kiwi classic, a strong reply both to Maori who were asserting their own identity and also to pakeha who mumbled that they didn't have a strong culture and identity of their own.
Abstract: First published in 1985, Michael King's Being Pakeha became a gentle Kiwi classic, a strong reply both to Maori who were asserting their own identity and also to Pakeha who mumbled that they didn t have a strong culture and identity of their own. Being Pakeha Now is an updated edition that reflects on these issues and how they have changed and evolved over the last fifteen years. The theme of Being Pakeha is that white New Zealanders do indeed belong to a strong culture, which is called 'Pakeha' and which is different, strong and definable and worth celebrating. In this revised edition King rewrites the Introduction and updates many of the chapters. In addition, he offers two new chapters, one on his experiences with Moriori and the Chathams and the other on his involvement in the NZ literary community.

TL;DR: The Importance of What We Care About as discussed by the authors is a collection of essays from the first volume of Frankfurt's essays, with the focus on the importance of what we care about.
Abstract: When Harry Frankfurt chose a title for the first volume of his essays, he must have been thinking of the direction in which his work was going rather than the direction from which it had come. Retrospect would have led him to the titles of the founding essays in his research program, such as “Freedom of the Will and the Concept of a Person” or “Identification and Externality.” Instead he named the volume after the essay that set the theme for his future work, “The Importance of What We Care About.” In the years since the publication of that volume, Frankfurt has explored many topics suggested by its wonderfully resonant title: how our caring about things makes them important to us; how the process of caring about them is important to us; and how important a matter it is which things we care about. What I most admire about Frankfurt's essays on these topics is their candor in reporting one man's efforts to understand life as he finds it. Reading this work, one has the sense of receiving dispatches from anexamined life. Frankfurt's reflections on caring, in particular, are clearly an expression of what the author cares about, and as such they command a respect that transcends any disagreement. Disagreement there is bound to be, however, when philosophy cuts so close to the bone.
