TL;DR: In this article, the effect of natural gas compositions variation on the performance of capillary tube thermal mass flow meters in residential use is studied and the results show that using an average specific heat capacity value for different mixtures causes a deviation below a maximum of only 1.8% and overall average error of 0.62% in measurement accuracy.

TL;DR: Precalibrated flow meters as discussed by the authors can be used in conjunction with air flow compensators which sense the flow of air through a fluid flow passage, and can be chosen during field operations using a touch pad on the face of the meters.
Abstract: Precalibrated flow meters which include electronic modules that contain, in a storage memory thereof, a plurality of calibration factors that correspond to a plurality of different fluids. The calibration factors can be chosen during field operations using a touch pad on the face of the meters. The precalibrated flow meters monitor current and accumulative totals of fluid volumes. The precalibrated flow meters can be used in conjunction with air flow compensators which sense the flow of air through a fluid flow passage.

TL;DR: In this paper, the meter reading is also compensated for change in viscosity of the fluid flowing through the meter by matching straight line segments to the quantity versus frequency output curve throughout the laminar and transitional ranges.
Abstract: Flowmeter apparatus and method for obtaining accurate measurement of fluid flow, not only in the turbulent flow range, but also in the laminar and transitional flow ranges by compensation of the meter reading. The meter reading is also compensated for change in viscosity of the fluid flowing through the meter. The compensation for flow range is based on the best-fit straight line approach obtained by matching straight line segments to the quantity versus frequency output curve throughout the laminar and transitional ranges, and compensating the flowmeter reading in accordance with the shape of the straight line segments. The compensation for change in kinematic viscosity of the fluid is added to the flowmeter output in accordance with the temperature-viscosity relationship for the fluid and in accordance with a ratio of compensation factors between the actual fluid and a reference fluid.
