TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the thermophysical properties of granular materials or silicates believed to simulate the lunar surface layer is presented, focusing on thermal conductivity data and the effects of material and environmental variables on the thermal conductivities.
Abstract: Review of the thermophysical properties of granular materials or silicates believed to simulate the lunar surface layer. Emphasis is placed on thermal conductivity data and the effects of material and environmental variables on the thermal conductivity. There are three basic mechanisms of heat transfer in particulate materials: conduction by the gas contained in the void spaces between the particles; conduction within the solid particles and across the interparticle contacts; and thermal radiation within the particles, across the void spaces between particle surfaces, and between void spaces themselves. Gas and solid conduction, thermal radiation, and the interaction between conduction and radiation are considered.

TL;DR: In this paper, a theoretical expression for the radiation linewidth was derived from a full statistical treatment of thermal fluctuations in the fluxon velocity, and the result appeared to be very general and was corroborated by experimental determination of the radiation emission from overlap Nb-$I$-Pb junctions.
Abstract: The radiation emission from long and narrow Josephson tunnel junctions dc-current biased on zero-field steps has been ascribed to resonant motion of fluxons on the transmission line. Within this dynamic model a theoretical expression for the radiation linewidth is derived from a full statistical treatment of thermal fluctuations in the fluxon velocity. The result appears to be very general and is corroborated by experimental determination of linewidth and frequency of radiation emitted from overlap Nb-$I$-Pb junctions.

TL;DR: In this paper, small-perturbation and small-slope expansions are compared for calculation of thermal emission from a rough sea surface and reflected sky radiation, and the comparison shows that the expansions are identical.
Abstract: Small-perturbation and small-slope expansions are applied and compared for calculation of thermal emission from a rough sea surface and reflected sky radiation. The comparison shows that the expansions are identical. This permits us to use the small-perturbation expansion to calculate microwave thermal radiation from the ocean instead of the two-scale model and the small-slope expansion. At grazing observation angles multiple scattering and shadowing become crucial and high-order terms of the expansion must be taken into account. This imposes a limitation on the applicability of the small-slope approximation.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the effect of thermal radiation on the thermal boundary layer thickness of an exponentially stretching surface saturated by nanofluids and showed that the thermal layer thickness significantly increases with the increase of Brownian motion, thermophoresis number and magnetic field strength.
