Abstract: Three-phase voltage-source converters are used as utility interfaces. In such a case, the converter line currents are required to track sinusoidal references synchronized with the utility grid without a steady-state error. In this paper a current control method based on a sinusoidal internal model is employed. The method uses a sine transfer function with a specified resonant frequency, which is called an S regulator. The combination of a conventional proportional-integral (PI) regulator and an S regulator is called a PIS regulator. The PIS regulator ensures that the steady-state error in response to any step changes in a reference signal at the resonant frequency and 0 Hz reduces to zero. An experiment was carried out using a 1-kVA prototype of three utility-interface converters, a voltage-source rectifier, an active power filter, and static synchronous compensator. Almost perfect current-tracking performance could be observed.

Abstract: In vehicle-to-grid applications, the battery charger of the electric vehicle (EV) needs to have a bidirectional power flow capability. Galvanic isolation is necessary for safety. An ac–dc bidirectional power converter with high-frequency isolation results in high power density, a key requirement for an on-board charger of an EV. Dual-active-bridge (DAB) converters are preferred in medium power and high voltage isolated dc–dc converters due to high power density and better efficiency. This paper presents a DAB-based three-phase ac–dc isolated converter with a novel modulation strategy that results in: 1) single-stage power conversion with no electrolytic capacitor, improving the reliability and power density; 2) open-loop power factor correction; 3) soft-switching of all semiconductor devices; and 4) a simple linear relationship between the control variable and the transferred active power. This paper presents a detailed analysis of the proposed operation, along with simulation results and experimental verification.

Abstract: This paper presents a new approach to control the grid current and dc-link voltage for maximum power point tracking and improvement of the dynamic response of a three-phase grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system. To control the grid current and dc-link voltage, the zero dynamic design approach of feedback linearization is used, which linearizes the system partially and enables controller design for reduced-order PV system. This paper also describes the zero dynamic stability of the three-phase grid-connected PV system, which is a key requirement for the implementation of such controllers. Simulation results on a large-scale grid-connected PV system show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme in terms of delivering maximum power into the grid.

Abstract: This paper proposes a control method for three-phase voltage-source PWM rectifiers using only a single current sensor in the DC-link. A PWM modulation strategy for reconstructing three phase currents from the DC-link current is given. When 3/spl phi/ input currents cannot be reconstructed, a method for modifying the switching state of the PWM rectifier and a method for the predictive state observer is proposed. Compensation of the 2 sampling delays is also included, and this method is combined with all of the experiments. Performance differences between the two methods in a typical voltage source PWM rectifier are investigated experimentally.

Abstract: This paper presents a technique for reconstructing converter line currents using the information from a single current sensor in the DC link of a converter and comparative evaluation of the performance of single sensor control techniques in the DC link for voltage-source pulsewidth modulation (V-S PWM) converters. When 3/spl phi/ input currents cannot be reconstructed, three methods to acquire the DC-link current are compared. Two of them are methods of modifying the switching state (I, II), and another is a method of using the predictive state observer. Also, compensation of sampling delay, and a simultaneous sample value of input currents in the center of a switching period are included. Suitable criteria for the comparison are identified, and the differences in the performance of these methods are investigated through experimental results for a typical V-S PWM converter rated at 10 kVA.
