01 Sep 1991TL;DR: In this article, the rotor and stator models for a three-phase cage induction motor were used in conjunction with the conventional equivalent circuit model to determine the equivalent circuit components for a 3-phase induction motor.
Abstract: A means by which the finite-element method can be used in conjunction with the conventional equivalent circuit model to determine the equivalent circuit components for a three-phase cage induction motor is described. The method uses separate finite-element models for the rotor and the stator, consisting of one slot pitch and one phase band, respectively. The use of minimal models leads to a fast execution time. The method is illustrated by comparing computer predictions of performance with test measurements made on four motors, ranging in size from 4 to 150 kW.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method to diagnose rotor faults in three-phase induction motors under the presence of time-varying loads is presented. But the proposed diagnostic strategy relies on a combined analysis of the amplitude and phase spectra of the instantaneous active and reactive powers of the motor, and allows to discriminate the effects introduced by a rotor fault from the ones caused by an oscillating load torque, even when these phenomena occur simultaneously.
Abstract: This paper presents a new method to diagnose rotor faults in operating three-phase induction motors under the presence of time-varying loads. The proposed diagnostic strategy relies on a combined analysis of the amplitude and phase spectra of the instantaneous active and reactive powers of the motor, and allows to discriminate the effects introduced by a rotor fault from the ones caused by an oscillating load torque, even when these phenomena occur simultaneously. A theoretical analysis carried out using a linearized model of the induction motor in a synchronous reference frame, complemented with several simulation and experimental results, confirms the validity of the proposed diagnostic approach.

TL;DR: In this article, a near-state three-dimensional space-vector modulation (NS 3-D SVM) switching scheme was proposed to reduce the common-mode noise in a three-phase four-leg voltage source inverter.
Abstract: A near-state three-dimensional space-vector modulation (NS 3-D SVM) switching scheme, which aims to reduce the common-mode noise in a three-phase four-leg voltage source inverter, is proposed. The impact of common-mode noise, which is related to electromagnetic interference issues for a high-voltage level four-leg system, is investigated first. Identification of the section in a 3-D space, selection of the near-state switching vectors, and sequence of the selected switching vectors are then introduced in steps to describe the proposed switching scheme. The proposed switching scheme is based on classical 3-D SVM, producing higher dc-link utilization, less harmonic content, and reduced switching loss compared to sinusoidal PWM. Theory, simulation, and experimental results show that the near-state 3-D SVM can work under both balanced and unbalanced load conditions.

TL;DR: In this paper, a controller for the cascade H-bridge three-phase multilevel converter used as a shunt active filter is proposed to compensate harmonic distortion and reactive power due to a nonlinear distorting load.
Abstract: The present invention comprises a controller for the cascade H-bridge three-phase multilevel converter used as a shunt active filter. Based on the proposed mathematical model, the controller is designed to compensate harmonic distortion and reactive power due to a nonlinear distorting load. Simultaneously, the controller guarantees regulation and balance of all capacitor voltages. The idea behind the controller is to allow distortion of the current reference during the transients to guarantee regulation and balance of the capacitors voltages. The controller provides the duty ratios for each H-bridge of the cascade multilevel converter.

18 May 1997TL;DR: In this paper, a performance analysis of a modified self-regulated self-excited single-phase induction generator is presented, which consists of a three-phase squirrel-cage induction machine and three capacitors connected in series and parallel with a single phase load.
Abstract: A performance analysis of a modified self-regulated self-excited single-phase induction generator is presented. This generator consists of a three-phase squirrel-cage induction machine and three capacitors connected in series and parallel with a single-phase load. By utilizing this three-phase system as a single-phase generator, in addition to improved voltage regulation, the inherent vibration and noise in the generator can be significantly reduced. Using an equivalent circuit model, the generator steady-state characteristics are theoretically predicted, and confirmed through experiment. These results are useful in optimizing generator performance.
