Abstract: 1. 1. The level of plasma free fatty acids (FFA) was similar in both species, while the level of plasma free glycerol (FG) in the toad was almost twice that found in the frog. The lipase-esterase activity was higher in the toad's liver and plasma but lower in the fat body. 2. 2. In the frog and toad, the level of plasma FFA reached high values in spring and in autumn. The level of plasma FG did not change according to the seasons. 3. 3. Starvation decreased the levels of plasma FFA and FG in summer but not in winter. 4. 4. In the frog, warm acclimation decreased the levels of plasma FFA and FG and also the activity of lipase-esterase in the fat body and liver but not in the plasma.
