Abstract: In this paper, a four-power-semiconductor-switch-based three-phase inverter is proposed for renewable energy source integration to a generalized microgrid system. The proposed topology b-4 of three-phase inverter is investigated to make the commercial microgrid system to be cost effective and hardware optimized. A simple sine-pulse-width-modulation-based (SPWM) control strategy is proposed for the b-4 inverter topology instead of the traditional complex four-switch-based space vector techniques. The overall control structure is implemented using the Lyapunov function-based nonlinear controller to track the inverter current directly in the a-b-c frame so that a specific amount of active and reactive grid power flow to the grid can be controlled in a decoupled manner along with low total harmonic distortion of grid currents in the presence of nonlinear load at the point of common coupling (PCC). A novel technique of using the spatial repetitive controller (SRC) is also proposed to eliminate the effect of midpoint voltage fluctuation of the dc link even in the case of asymmetrically split dc-link capacitors without any extra voltage or current sensors unlike conventional methods. Detailed experimental results are provided to show the efficacy of the proposed hardware system for grid-connected applications in the microgrid.

Abstract: In the network querying problem, one is given a protein complex or pathway of species A and a protein-protein interaction network of species B; the goal is to identify subnetworks of B that are similar to the query in terms of sequence, topology, or both. Existing approaches mostly depend on knowledge of the interaction topology of the query in the network of species A; however, in practice, this topology is often not known. To address this problem, we develop a topology-free querying algorithm, which we call Torque. Given a query, represented as a set of proteins, Torque seeks a matching set of proteins that are sequence-similar to the query proteins and span a connected region of the network, while allowing both insertions and deletions. The algorithm uses alternatively dynamic programming and integer linear programming for the search task. We test Torque with queries from yeast, fly, and human, where we compare it to the QNet topology-based approach, and with queries from less studied species, where only topology-free algorithms apply. Torque detects many more matches than QNet, while giving results that are highly functionally coherent.

Abstract: This paper presents a zero-voltage-transition (ZVT) boost converter using a soft switching auxiliary circuit for power factor correction (PFC) applications. The improvement over existing topologies lies in the positioning of the auxiliary circuit capacitors and the subsequent reduction in the resonant current and therefore the conduction losses as compared to other similar topologies. The proposed converter operates in two modes - Mode 1 and Mode 2. It is shown in the paper that the converter should be designed using the constraints obtained in Mode 1 to achieve low-loss switching. The converter is analyzed and characteristic curves presented which are then used in a detailed design example. Experimental results from a 250 W, 127 V input laboratory prototype switching at 100 kHz verify the design process and highlight the advantages of the proposed topology. The proposed converter is suitable for single-phase, two stage power factor correction circuits with universal input voltage range and power levels up to 3 kW.

Abstract: Single-phase power converters are widely used in power applications as photovoltaics and fuel-cell power conditioners. In addition, multilevel converters are a well-known solution in order to achieve high-quality output waveforms in power systems. In this paper, a time-domain duty-cycle computation technique for single-phase multilevel converters named 1DM is presented. The proposed technique is based on geometrical calculations with outstanding simplicity and generality. The proposed modulation technique can be easily applied to any multilevel converter topology carrying out the necessary calculations. The most common multilevel converter topologies have been studied in this paper as examples to introduce the proposed modulation strategy. Any other multilevel converter topology could be studied, and the corresponding 1DM could be easily developed. In addition, the well-known optimized voltage balance strategy for voltage capacitor control using the redundant switching states of the system is applied working with the proposed 1DM method, showing that both techniques are compatible. Experimental and simulation results for several single-phase multilevel converters are shown to validate the proposed modulation technique.

Abstract: Versatile single-phase voltage source inverters with unipolar voltage pulse and leakage current elimination capability have been extensively investigated for transformerless PV systems in the literature. However, the innovative current source inverters with leakage current elimination capability are not well explored. In this brief, a novel single-phase current source H5 (CH5) inverter is proposed. Only one extra IGBT is needed, but the leakage current can be significantly suppressed with a novel space vector modulation. Finally, the experimental tests are carried out on a single-phase CH5 inverter and the experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed topology and space vector modulation.
