Abstract: A high-power-factor rectifier suitable for universal line base on a modified version of the single-ended primary inductance converter (SEPIC) is presented in this paper. The voltage multiplier technique is applied to the classical SEPIC circuit, obtaining new operation characteristics as low-switch-voltage operation and high static gain at low line voltage. The new configuration also allows the reduction of the losses associated to the diode reverse recovery current, and soft commutation is obtained with a simple regenerative snubber circuit. The operation analysis, design procedure, and experimental results obtained from a 650-W universal line power-factor-correction prototype of the proposed converter are presented. The theoretical analysis and experimental results obtained with the proposed structure are compared with the classical boost topology.

Abstract: The joint problem of transmission-side diversity and routing in wireless networks is studied. It is assumed that each node in the network is equipped with a single omni-directional antenna and multiple nodes are allowed to coordinate their transmissions to achieve transmission-side diversity. The problem of finding the minimum energy route under this setting is formulated. Analytical asymptotic results are obtained for lower bounds on the resulting energy savings for both a regular line network topology and a grid network topology. For a regular line topology, it is possible to achieve energy savings of 39%. For a grid topology, it is possible to achieve energy savings of 56%. For arbitrary networks, we develop heuristics with polynomial complexity which result in average energy savings of 30% – 50% based on simulations.

Abstract: Leakage current reduction of the single-phase transformerless cascaded H-bridge PV inverter is investigated in this paper. The high-frequency common-mode loop model of a typical single-phase cascaded H-bridge PV system is established. Based on the model, the main factors that affect the leakage current are discussed. The reason why the typical single-phase cascaded H-bridge inverter fails to reduce the leakage current is explained. In order to solve the problem, a cascaded topology based on the H5 inverter is presented, along with a new modulation strategy, which can ensure that the stray capacitor voltage is free of high-frequency components. In this way, the leakage current can be effectively reduced. Finally, a prototype with TMS320F28335DSP + XC3S400FPGA digital control is built. The performance tests of cascaded H-bridge and the proposed topologies are carried out. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed solution.

Abstract: A linear-generator topology is proposed for wave-energy applications. The main significance of the generator topology is that the relative position of the magnets, copper, and steels has been chosen so that there are no magnetic attraction forces between a stator and a permanent-magnet (PM) translator. The lack of magnetic forces and the modular nature of the generator topology make the manufacture and assembly of the generator easier than a conventional iron-cored PM linear generator. Analytical modeling techniques are described with a genetic-algorithm optimization method. The proposed topology is implemented to an Archimedes-wave-swing wave-energy converter. A 50-kW prototype has been built to prove the concept, and the no-load- and load-test results are presented.
