TL;DR: It is demonstrated that this converter concept fulfils the demanding requirements for future ac-fed traction vehicles very well and results in a very cost-efficient and versatile converter construction.
Abstract: A new ac/ac modular multilevel converter (M/sup 2/LC) family will be introduced. The new concept stands out due to its modularity and superior control characteristics. The stringent modularity results in a very cost-efficient and versatile converter construction. This new M/sup 2/LC concept is well suited to a wide range of multiphase ac/ac converters. The basic working principle together with the static and dynamic behavior are explained in detail on a single-phase ac/ac converter enabling four-quadrant operation. It is demonstrated that this converter concept fulfils the demanding requirements for future ac-fed traction vehicles very well.

TL;DR: In this article, an electric traction vehicle is described which may be used to provide power to off-board electric power consuming systems or devices, such as electric power storage devices, which can be selectively discharged to allow the vehicle to be serviced.
Abstract: An electric traction vehicle is described herein which may be used to provide power to off-board electric power-consuming systems or devices. The electric traction vehicle may provide 250 kilowatts or more of three phase AC power to an off-board electric power consuming system. The electric traction vehicle may also include an electrical power storage device which can be selectively discharged to allow the vehicle to be serviced.

TL;DR: This paper presents a perspective on power quality issues through railway electrification development and investigates the necessity of power quality and system requirements for appropriate power quality.
Abstract: Since the beginning of railway electrification, power quality has been a main problem in railway networks because of their special characteristics. Many ways of power quality improvement have been investigated and applied to ac and dc traction systems through railway electrification history. This paper presents a perspective on power quality issues through railway electrification development and investigates the necessity of power quality and system requirements for appropriate power quality. Compensation strategies are classified and compared. This aims to provide a comprehensive perspective of the power quality issue in railway power/distribution networks for researchers and engineers working on railway electrification. Less than 100 research articles are referenced for researchers to obtain good background information.

TL;DR: In this article, a lowvoltage (LV) PETT prototype is presented, which has been designed for the purposes of control hardware and software commissioning, thus serving a role of an analogue simulator.
Abstract: Recently, a world's first ever power electronic traction transformer (PETT) for 15 kV, 16 2/3Hz railway grid, has been newly developed, commissioned, and installed on the locomotive, where it is presently in use This marks an important milestone in the traction world The design and development of the PETT are described in this paper, where a low-voltage (LV) PETT prototype is presented It has been designed for the purposes of control hardware and software commissioning, thus serving a role of an analogue simulator In this paper, emphasis is placed on the overall system requirements, from where control system has been developed, implemented, and successfully commissioned The development of a 12MVA medium-voltage PETT prototype will be reported separately in accompanying paper
