TL;DR: A simple but realistic model of traffic flow on highways treats steady-state flow on uniform roads in the LIMIT of DENSITIES so low that no QC needs to be considered, and corrections to the desired lane behaviour are made.

TL;DR: This paper proposes a novel traffic light system in which the traffic light scheduling and location are broadcasted, using wireless technology, to each (automated) vehicle, and develops a scheme which increases the capacity of the intersection and makes the trafficLight system much more safe by eliminating the immediate danger in crossing the "red" traffic light.
Abstract: Traffic jams remain a challenging open problem inside and in vicinity of big cities around the world. This leads to a loss of "precious" working time during rush hours, and to the waste of huge amount of fuel which is also undesirable in terms of carbon emission. In this context, traffic light constitutes the bottleneck of the traffic flow system. In addition, disregard of traffic light is the major cause of road accidents. In this paper, we propose a novel traffic light system in which the traffic light scheduling and location are broadcasted, using wireless technology, to each (automated) vehicle. Using a virtual or additional physical traffic light, in conjunction with the original physical traffic light, we develop a scheme which increases the capacity of the intersection. The increased performance of the proposed scheme is illustrated analytically and with simulations. We show in both cases an increase of 5 to 20% in the fraction of undelayed vehicles, depending on the scenario, and a decrease of up to 50% in the average waiting time. Moreover, our scheme makes the traffic light system much more safe by eliminating the immediate danger in crossing the "red" traffic light.

TL;DR: This study presents a measurement of FIFO violation among vehicles and theoretically shows that this measurement is well defined and applies this measurement in order to study scenarios simulated by a microscopic traffic simulator.
Abstract: In reality, First-In-First-Out (FIFO) principle for vehicles on a link or path is often violated because of the heterogeneity in drivers’ behavior and traffic conditions on different lanes. It is important to understand how serious such FIFO violation can be, since the assumption of FIFO has been an important foundation for developing many dynamic traffic assignment strategies and traffic flow models. This paper first presents a measurement of FIFO violation among vehicles and then theoretically shows that this measurement is well defined. Then the paper applies this measurement in order to study scenarios simulated by a microscopic traffic simulator. In these scenarios, FIFO violation is linear to travel time or distance. This study will serve as a springboard for future studies on FIFO violation in real traffic and can have implications in calibrating traffic flow models and investigating dynamic traffic assignment methods.

TL;DR: A traffic control system provides a driver of a vehicle (101), which runs in a predetermined running state among vehicles running on a road (50), with information on the suppression of traffic congestion on the road as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A traffic control system provides a driver of a vehicle (101), which runs in a predetermined running state among vehicles running on a road (50), with information on the suppression of traffic congestion on the road. The predetermined running state is, for example, a running state constituting a cause of traffic congestion on the road. The information may be provided by urging the driver to perform a driving operation of at least one of acceleration and lane change.

TL;DR: Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed traffic model can be successfully used for simulating the train movement, such as the complex acceleration and deceleration of trains and the propagation of train delay.
Abstract: Based on a car-following model, in this paper, we propose a new traffic model for simulating train movement in railway traffic. In the proposed model, some realistic characteristics of train movement are considered, such as the distance headway and the safety stopping distance. Using the proposed traffic model, we analyse the space-time diagram of traffic flow, the trajectory of train movement, etc. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed model can be successfully used for simulating the train movement. Some complex phenomena can be reproduced, such as the complex acceleration and deceleration of trains and the propagation of train delay.
