TL;DR: In this paper, a trailing arm suspension with a central rib and U-shaped side plates is shown to have congruent semicircular recesses (34, 38) disposed at one end of the trailing arm to define a first seat.
Abstract: A trailing arm suspension (10) has a trailing arm (12) comprising a central rib (32) to which opposing U-shaped side plates (52, 54) are welded. The central rib (32) and the opposing side plates (52, 54) have congruent semicircular recesses (34, 38) disposed at one end of the trailing arm to define a first seat (55) for receiving a mounting collar (36) to mount the one end of the trailing arm to a hanger bracket (16). The central rib (32) and opposing side plates (52, 54) have further congruent semicircular recesses (56, 58) that define a second seat (57) in which is mounted a cast member (40) for mounting an axle (24). A portion of the central rib extends above the opposed side plates and defines a shock absorber mount (42). The other end of the central rib (32) has a rectangular recess (46) for receiving an end shaft (48) to mount a transverse beam.

TL;DR: In this paper, a vehicle rear suspension system includes a wheel carrying member for rotatably carrying a wheel of a vehicle, three lateral links extending in a transverse direction and connected with the wheel-carrying member at their outer ends, and a trailing arm forming with biforked portions at a rear end, extending in the up and down direction.
Abstract: A vehicle rear suspension system includes a wheel carrying member for rotatably carrying a wheel of a vehicle, three lateral links extending in a transverse direction and connected with the wheel carrying member at their outer ends, and a trailing arm extending in a longitudinal direction. The trailing arm is connected with a body member of the vehicle at front end through a single joint. The trailing arm is formed with biforked portions, at a rear end, extending in the up and down direction. One of the biforked portions is connected with a lower one of the three lateral link and the other of the biforked portions is connected with an upper one of the three lateral links or the wheel carrying member. The number of connecting points or joints between the trailing arm and the wheel carrying member can be reduced with an improved controllability of wheel attitude.

TL;DR: In this article, a three-wheel vehicle with one front wheel and two rear wheels is presented, including a novel tilt-and-bank mechanism, front wheel suspension, safety frame, aerodynamic body design, and sliding doors.
Abstract: A three-wheel vehicle apparatus has one front wheel and two rear wheels to improve safety of operation, including a novel tilt-and-bank mechanism, front wheel suspension, safety frame, aerodynamic body design, and sliding doors. The tilt-and-band mechanism employs a tilt bar connected to hydraulic cylinders and spring/shock units mounted on the wheels which automatically tilt and bank the vehicle in turns. The front wheel suspension mounts the front wheel on a trailing arm and uses a reaction arm connected to a pivot pin in front of the wheel for better handling of centrifugal forces in turning. The safety frame employs three crosswise roll bars connected together by three longitudinal bars and connectors, all in turn connected to a complete wraparound bumper. This vehicle is made aerodynamically more efficient by a pointed nose and a new upswept tail that eliminates rear drag at high speeds. Additionally, doors which can be opened and remain open at high speeds are roller mounted on the outside of the passenger compartments. The improved vehicle is designed to make the use of three-wheel vehicles on today's highways safe and reliable.

TL;DR: In this paper, a vehicle suspension system for mounting ground-engaging wheels to a vehicle frame where two arms are secured to opposite sides of the frame and a wheel-carrying axle is suspended between the arms is described.
Abstract: A vehicle suspension system for mounting ground-engaging wheels to a vehicle frame where two arms are secured to opposite sides of the frame and a wheel-carrying axle is suspended between the arms. The axle is secured to the arms by a wrapper plate partially surrounding the axle, and a bolt is utilized to compress the wrapper plate about the axle so that the wrapper plate supports and strengthens the axle. A plug weld is provided between the axle and the wrapper plate. The wrapper generally conforms to the profile of that portion of the axle which it surrounds. The axle can be square, round or D-shaped in cross-section.

TL;DR: A vehicle trailing arm suspension has an axle mounted to a pair of trailing arms through axle-mounting assemblies that include one or two beam-axle connectors mounted to one of the arms through a bushed connection and connected to the axle through a collar that receives the axle.
Abstract: A vehicle trailing arm suspension has an axle mounted to a pair of trailing arms through axle-mounting assemblies that include one or two beam-axle connectors mounted to one of the arms through a bushed connection and connected to the axle through a collar that receives the axle. An elastomeric layer is positioned between the axle and the collar for articulation. Each beam-axle connector can include an arcuate plate at the other end thereof and through which the beam-axle connector is mounted to the axle through welding or a compression mounting. The compression mounting includes a hollow wrapper band under tension sufficient to compress the axle to prevent movement of the axle with respect to the wrapper band under ordinary service conditions. A radius tower can also be mounted to an axle through the hollow wrapper band.
