TL;DR: In this article, critical race theory is presented as a paradigmatic framework that focuses on both institutions and the pain they create for marginalized people, addressing root causes and personal distress while pursuing transformational change.
Abstract: Rapidly changing demographics in the United States, the 2008 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards, and recent developments in the literature that question the effectiveness of multiculturalism and cultural competence suggest social work education, research, and practice are in need of a new approach to diversity. In conceptualizing diversity, social workers need to address a broad social context that includes institutional/structural arrangements, recognize the intersection of multiple identities, and integrate an explicit social justice orientation. This article presents critical race theory as a paradigmatic framework that focuses on both institutions and the pain they create for marginalized people. The critique is multidimensional, addressing root causes and personal distress while pursuing transformational change.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors review leadership praxis from the frames of wider spiritualities, link spirituality search with contemporary managerialist practices and survey the breadth of, and commonalities within, varied philosophic positions with regard to the spiritual search.
Abstract: Spirituality is a long‐neglected dimension in the leadership issue as it is in the psychological contract implicit in work organizations. Traditionally rooted in religion, there are wider spiritualities that the organizational actor can draw upon and a burgeoning literature on personal meaning and transformative leadership. This paper reviews leadership praxis from the frames of wider spiritualities, links spirituality search with contemporary managerialist practices and surveys the breadth of, and commonalities within, varied philosophic positions with regard to the spiritual search.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the relationship between five top management actions and employee commitment, job satisfaction, and role ambiguity, and found that these actions are strongly related to all three of these outcomes.
Abstract: Popular approaches to organizational leadership note that productivity and innovation in U.S. organizations could be greatly improved if top managers placed more emphasis on organizational values and culture. Recent findings in transformational leadership research prescribe top management to develop and share a vision for the organization, model that vision, encourage innovativeness, support employee efforts, and allow employees input into decisions concerning their jobs (Bass, 1985; Kouzes & Posner, 1988). These actions should act to improve productivity by increasing positive attitudes and clarifying the roles of the employees. This study examined the relationships between these five actions and employee commitment, job satisfaction, and role ambiguity. Results suggest that top-management actions are strongly related to all three of these outcomes. The results also suggest that the effects of certain actions vary for different organizational settings.

TL;DR: This article investigated the effect of leadership training and counseling feedback on subordinates' perceptions of transformational leadership and found that both training and feedback resulted in increased subordinate perceptions of leaders' transformational behavior.
Abstract: Investigated the effect of leadership training and counseling feedback on subordinates’ perceptions of transformational leadership. A total of 40 organizational leaders participated in a 2 (training) × 2 (feedback) design. Data from 180 subordinates showed that both training and feedback resulted in increased subordinate perceptions of leaders’ transformational leadership. Results suggest that both training and feedback are effective means of changing leadership behaviors but that the combination of training and feedback did not result in enhanced transformational leadership.
