TL;DR: In this article, a novel procedure to design axial and transverse superresolving pupil filters for the 4Pi-confocal microscope is presented, based on the use of a series of figures of merit developed to describe the effect of inserting two identical filters in the two arms of the illumination path of the microscope.
Abstract: A novel procedure to design axial and transverse superresolving pupil filters for the 4Pi-confocal microscope is presented. The method is based on the use of a series of figures of merit developed to describe the effect of inserting two identical filters in the two arms of the illumination path of the microscope. As a practical implementation, we have applied our method to obtain superresolving continuous phase-only filters. Different resolution-improving phase functions are shown for the transverse and the axial direction. These filters provided axial gain up to 1.3 and transverse gain up to 1.4 without an increase in sidelobes.

Abstract: It is now evident that the value of endowing rotating machines with the capability to produce transverse forces in addition to their normal torque-producing function can be extremely high. The bridge configured winding is a cost-saving connection scheme for electrical machines to exploit transverse magnetic forces on the rotors. The winding scheme retains the machine's three-phase terminals such that ordinary motor inverters can be employed for the normal torque-producing function while providing separate terminals for transverse force action. This paper describes the practical implementation of such a winding connection in a conventional electric machine and demonstrates that controllable transverse forces can be produced.

TL;DR: In this article, a six-variable quasi-3D model with one additional variable in transverse displacement of higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) is developed to take into account the effects of transverse shears and normal strain in a laminated composite plate.

TL;DR: Motion patterns of the backpack and thorax suggested that the backpack frame was used to assist with the deceleration and reversal of the loaded thorax, driven by the pelvis through the hip belt connection, which may have required less trunk muscle activation and allowed for improved pattern stability.

TL;DR: In this paper, a model for free transverse vibration and instability of current-carrying nanowires immersed in a longitudinal magnetic field is developed to investigate the problem on the basis of the surface elasticity theory, and analytical expressions of dynamic transverse displacements as well as natural frequencies of the magnetically affected nanowire for carrying electric current are obtained.
