TL;DR: Steady flow results that model the inspiratory phase at Reynolds numbers of 518, 1036 and 2089, corresponding to Dean numbers of 98, 196 and 395, show that in the bifurcation plane velocity profiles in the daughter branches are skewed toward the inner wall.
Abstract: Flow in a bifurcating tube system typifying a major bronchial bifurcation is studied experimentally with a two color, two velocity component laser Doppler anemometer. The flow loop is composed of a pumping station, flow stratifiers and a constant head pressure tank; it can accommodate steady, pulsatile or oscillatory flow. The test section is a symmetric bifurcation of constant cross sectional area and has a branching angle of 70 deg. The test section is a cast of clear silicon rubber in a plexiglass mold that was milled on a numerically controlled milling machine. The flow division ratio from the parent to daughter branches is about unity. Steady flow results that model the inspiratory phase at Reynolds numbers of 518, 1036 and 2089, corresponding to Dean numbers of 98, 196 and 395, show that in the bifurcation plane velocity profiles in the daughter branches are skewed toward the inner wall. In the transverse plane, "m" shaped velocity profiles are found with low velocity at the center. Secondary flow patterns, which are responsible for such phenomena, are first observed at the axial position where the flow begins to turn. Flow separation was not observed at any point in the bifurcation.

TL;DR: In this article, a transverse connection device consisting of a body and a blade was designed to cover a rigid transverse bar in a sliding manner and equipped with means for locking on the bar.
Abstract: This device comprises two fixation elements (4), each consisting of a hook (4) designed so as to be able to cover a rigid transverse bar (3) in a sliding manner and equipped with means (9, 8) for locking on the bar (3); this hook is made up of a body (5) and at least one blade. This device forms a relatively simple transverse connection device which can be positioned quickly and which has great torsional and flexural strength.

TL;DR: In this article, a surgical kit for tibial osteotomy is provided, comprising a pair of mounting pins for attaching, an osteotomy guide in a predetermined relation to a tibia; a plurality of oblique slots angularly offset from the transverse slot, each oblique slot defining an oblique cutting plane, adapted to receive and guide a transverse cutting blade for making a selected oblique cut into the tibia.
Abstract: A surgical kit for performing a tibial osteotomy is provided, comprising a pair of mounting pins for attaching, an osteotomy guide in a predetermined relation to a tibia; an osteotomy guide, comprising a transverse slot, defining a transverse cutting plane, adapted to receive and guide a transverse cutting blade for making a transverse cut into the tibia, and a plurality of oblique slots angularly offset from the transverse slot, each oblique slot defining an oblique cutting plane, adapted to receive and guide an oblique cutting blade for making a selected oblique cut into the tibia, wherein the intersection of each oblique cutting plane with the transverse cutting plane defines a wedge of bone which may be removed from the tibia. Also included with the surgical kit are a compression clamp adapted to apply compressive forces to a first portion of the tibia above the transverse cut and to a second portion of the tibia below the oblique cut to draw the first and second portions together, and a fixation plate adapted to hold the portions of the tibia together during healing. A method for performing an upper tibial osteotomy is also provided which employs the osteotomy surgical kit.

TL;DR: In this article, the velocity field in the symmetry plane of two transverse jets and two jet flames in a crossflow is obtained using particle image velocimetry, which suggests that flame/flow interaction is strong near the lifted flamebase, but increasingly weaker further downstream.
Abstract: Detailed measurements of the velocity field in the symmetry plane of two jets and two jet flames in a crossflow are obtained using particle image velocimetry. The jets issue into a wind tunnel at density-weighted jet-to-crossflow velocity ratios r = 10 and r = 21, with corresponding Reynolds numbers 6000 and 12 800. Ensemble statistics of the velocity field are presented, and some interesting features of the entrainment process in transverse jets are discussed. Deviations from the simple behaviour predicted by the similarity analysis presented in Part 1 are highlighted. Simultaneous planar laser-induced fluorescence imaging of the OH radical is performed in selected regions of the flames. Results suggests that flame/flow interaction is strong near the lifted flamebase, but increasingly weaker further downstream.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied parametric resonances when an elastic system is rotated around an annular disc with friction having a negative slope with velocity, and demonstrated that the effect of the in-plane system including the negative friction-velocity relationship is to introduce additional parametric resonance which are destabilised by the transverse damper, and to reduce the regions of instability of the other resonances.
