TL;DR: In this article, a detailed morphological study of tridymite crystals with hexagonal and trigonal morphologies was carried out by crystallizing Aventurine glass under isothermal conditions, and the transition from faceted plate-like to non-faceted dendritic to spherical structures with an increase in undercooling was discussed.

TL;DR: Saturated minerals as discussed by the authors include some of the most highly silicated compounds of their respective metallic elements; they are mostly the less highly silicate compounds of the same metallic elements which, entering into the former group, are termed unsaturated minerals.
Abstract: Of the various minerals which enter into the composition of igneous rocks, about one-half are capable of forming in presence of free silica, as is shown by their association in rocks with quartz and tridymite. These may, for the present purpose, be termed saturated minerals; they include some of the most highly silicated compounds of their respective metallic elements. The remaining rock minerals do not appear in association with free silica, and may be presumed to be incapable of stable existence in its presence; they are mostly the less highly silicated compounds of the same metallic elements which, enter into the former group. These may, for the present purpose, be, termed unsaturated minerals. The unsaturated character of any mineral in the latter group is not affected by the temperature and pressure at which crystallization takes place; this is shown by the fact that quartz and the minerals referred to are mutually exclusive both in plutonic and in effusive rocks. In the case of sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium the formation of saturated or unsaturated minerals appears to depend only on the amount of silica available in the magma. Aluminium, ferrosum, and ferricum, elements of feebly basic character, have their combinations largely determined for them by the more strongly basic elements, with which they tend to form either complex molecules or mix-crystals.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method of manufacturing a silica particle to become a resin filler capable of increasing the heat conductivity of a resin molding more than that of a conventional one.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silica particle to become a resin filler capable of increasing the heat conductivity of a resin molding more than that of a conventional one and a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The silica particle has a spherical shape and ≥2 kinds of crystal forms selected from a group of α-quartz, tridymite and cristobalite. In the method of manufacturing the silica particle, the silica particle is manufactured by injecting a dispersion phase liquid in which silica sol is dispersed to a continuous phase liquid incompatible to the dispersion phase liquid through fine pores to prepare an emulsion, separating the dispersion phase from the emulsion to produce a cake and firing the cake obtained by the separation at ≥800°C to ≤1,300°C in the coexistence of a crystallization agent containing one kind of element selected from a group comprising Ca, Y, La and Eu. TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of soda-lime-silica (SLS) glass on the physical properties of the ceramic material obtained from white rice husk ash (WRHA) was investigated by XRD analysis after different heat treatments.
Abstract: This study reports on the effect of soda-lime-silica (SLS) glass on the physical properties of the ceramic material obtained from white rice husk ash (WRHA). The crystallisation behaviour of samples was investigated by XRD analysis after different heat treatments. The bulk density and linear shrinkage (LS) of the samples were determined using Archimedes’ method and direct geometric measurement, respectively. The residual pore contents of the specimens were determined using SEM micrographs. The results show that the bulk density and LS of the samples increased and the porosity decreased as the sintering temperature increased. The XRD analysis results show the formation of cristobalite to be a major phase and some tridymite phase was detected in the specimens.
