TL;DR: This paper describes how spatter coding leads to binary HRRs, and how the fields of a record are encoded into a long binary word without fields and how they are extracted from such a word.
Abstract: Information with structure is traditionally organized into records with fields. For example, a medical record consisting of name, sex, age, and weight might look like (Joe, male, 66, 77). What 77 stands for is determined by its location in the record, so that this is an example of local representation. The brain's wiring, and robustness under local damage, speak for the importance of distributed representations. The Holographic Reduced Representation (HRR) of Plate is a prime example based on real or complex vectors. This paper describes how spatter coding leads to binary HRRs, and how the fields of a record are encoded into a long binary word without fields and how they are extracted from such a word.

TL;DR: This work demonstrates how Orion simplifies the design and enhances the capabilities of two example applications: managing sensor data (continuous uncertainty) and inferring missing values (discrete uncertainty).
Abstract: Orion is a state-of-the-art uncertain database management system with built-in support for probabilistic data as first class data types. In contrast to other uncertain databases, Orion supports both attribute and tuple uncertainty with arbitrary correlations. This enables the database engine to handle both discrete and continuous pdfs in a natural and accurate manner. The underlying model is closed under the basic relational operators and is consistent with Possible Worlds Semantics. We demonstrate how Orion simplifies the design and enhances the capabilities of two example applications: managing sensor data (continuous uncertainty) and inferring missing values (discrete uncertainty).

TL;DR: An object-relational database gateway for use in a computing environment having a relational database management system (RDBMS) is disclosed in this article, which includes a query generator to generate from an object-oriented query a set of relational queries.
Abstract: An object-relational database gateway for use in a computing environment having a relational database management system (RDBMS) is disclosed. Object-oriented objects in the computing environment conform to a class inheritance hierarchy defined by an object-oriented schema. The gateway includes a query generator to generate from an object-oriented query a set of relational queries. The object-oriented query identifies one or more target objects of a target class which are desired to be constructed. The set of relational queries, when processed, enable the RDBMS to retrieve tuples required to initialize base attributes of the target objects that are defined by the target class and by any super-classes and sub-classes of the target class. The gateway also includes a tuple-to-object translator to translate the tuples to object-oriented objects consistent with the class inheritance hierarchy.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a set of document-location tuples from a corpus of documents, wherein each document contains information that is responsive to the free text query entry and contains location-related information that refers to a location within the domain.
Abstract: Under one aspect, an interface program stored on a computer-readable medium causes a computer system with a display device to perform the functions of: accepting search criteria from a user, the search criteria including a domain identifier identifying a domain and a free text query entry; in response to accepting said search criteria from the user, receiving a set of document-location tuples from a corpus of documents, wherein each document: (a) contains information that is responsive to the free text query entry; and (b) contains location-related information that refers to a location within the domain; requesting and receiving a result from an additional query based at least in part on the domain identifier, the result not being a document-location tuple; and displaying a visual representation of at least a subset of the document-location tuples and a visual representation of the result of the additional query on the display device
