TL;DR: The conclusion was obtained that the effects of undergrowth recovery for degenerative Pinus massoniana plantation on soil micro-ecology environment was distinct and better effects on the quantity of soil bacteria and content of available K.
Abstract: There usually are many problems for Pinus massoniana plantation such as the poor of stability of ecosystem, the low level of biodiversity, the poverty of the soil, nutrient cycling blocked and so on.In order to explore the key technology of solving problem of the Pinus massoniana plantation, this study had selected five combination of different type of plant which planted under the forest to recovery the ecosystem.Via the analysis of the restoration effects of five different undergrowth recovery modes and the results showed that: The forest-green manure mode 1 was planted Amorpha fruticosa and Trioflium repens,it was the most effective mode to increase the TN,available N and the activity of catalase, and the value of these items respectively were 40.78%,39.99%,39.77%;the forestgreen manure mode 2 that planted Lespedeza davidii and Trioflium repens had the best effect on the quantity of soil bacteria and the activity of urease, the amplification of which is 865% and 17.28%.They also had better effects on the increasing of soil TK and organic matter;the forest-medicinal plant mode(Gardenia jasminoides + Cleredendrum cwtophyllum + Lophatherum sinense) had increased the organic matter of soil by 67.35%,the available K and TK by 32.71% and 31.25%,and the activity of dehydrogenase by 16.81%,it had the best effects on these items;the generally effects of the forest-crop mode on soil micro-ecology was not outstanding, but it had better effects on the quantity of soil bacteria and content of available K.The conclusion we obtained above illustrated the point that the effects of undergrowth recovery for degenerative Pinus massoniana plantation on soil micro-ecology environment was distinct.According to the actual production, for the degenerative Pinus massoniana plantation of Zijinshan forest farm,it could plant Amorpha fruticosa formed forest-green manure mode to carry on the undergrowth recovery for the young growth, and for the middle growth was forest-medicinal plant mode with Gardenia jasminoides + Cleredendrum cwtophyllum + Lophatherum sinense.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors studied the development and distribution of the root systems of trees and shrubs on the slopes with different steepness in a forest park in the northern environs of Kyiv (Ukraine).
Abstract: Vegetation growing on the slopes counteracts the development of erosion processes, directly affects the improvement of soil properties, which are largely determined by the morphological structure of the root system. We studied the development and distribution of the root systems of trees and shrubs on the slopes with different steepness in a forest park in the northern environs of Kyiv (Ukraine). The method of complete excavation of plants growing under the conditions of composite topography, in the park stands employed near ravines, where the plants were exposed due to erosion, was chosen for the research. The samples of root systems of 15 trees and 5 shrubs selected from different locations of growth places were examined: under the canopy, in canopy windows, in the open space, and at the slopes of different expositions with steepness from 6° to 39°. The plants aged up to 13 years, up to 3.5 m high, with crown diameter up to 130 cm and root neck thickness up to 80 mm were selected from undergrowth and understory. The depth of penetration of the root systems into the soil and the order of their branching were measured for further studying the anti-erosion properties of root systems. The area of horizontal projection of the root system to the crown diameter ratio, the soil saturation with roots and the intensity of root system branching were determined. Numerical indicators of the spatial structure of root systems are extremely important when assessing the studied trees and shrubs. Key words: park planting, undergrowth, understore, soil saturation with roots, depth of soil penetration, branching intensity

TL;DR: Zhang et al. as mentioned in this paper studied the ecological benefits of urban landscape public welfare forest of Changsha city, by taking the methods of forest hydrological location observation, sample collection, experimental analysis, and the hydrologogical ecology effects of Liquidambar formosana plantation in Changsha suburban were studied with wasteland data as the control.
Abstract: In order to scientifically estimate the ecological benefits of urban landscape public welfare forest of Changsha city,by taking the methods of forest hydrological location observation, sample collection, experimental analysis, the hydrological ecology effects of Liquidambar formosana plantation in Changsha suburban were studied with wasteland data as the control, which were caused from three hydrological ecology action layers: forest canopy layer, undergrowth litter layer and soil layer. The results show that the amount of canopy interception accounted for 22.37% of the average total amount of rainfall during the period of observation, there was a linear relationship among the through fall, stem flow and the rainfall outside plantation, and there was an obvious power function relationship between the amount of canopy interception and that of rainfall;and the storage of underground litter in the plantation is 4.56 t·hm-2,the litter maximum moisture content was 6.79 t·hm-2;and the soil unit weight of the plantation underground was smaller than that of wasteland, the non-capillary porosity was bigger than that of wasteland by two times, and the soil maximum moisture content in the layer of 0~45cm on plantation underground was 197.80 mm;and the Liquidambar formosana plantation can improve the soil structure, and had an apparent function of soil and water conservation compared with the wasteland.
