TL;DR: The aphid‐parasitoid‐hyperparasitic food webs of different economic non‐important Uroleucon spp.
Abstract: The aphid-parasitoid-hyperparasitoid food webs of different economic non-important Uroleucon spp. feeding on Cardueae were examined. Uroleucon spp. were attacked by a specialized complex of primary parasitoids which is restricted to this genus and some closely related genera. Aphidius funebris was the dominant parasitoid on all host aphids. Trioxys centaureae was co-dominant on U. jaceae, but rare on U. cirsii and is presumed to prefer the subgenus Uromelan within Uroleucon hosts. The primaries were attacked by a complex of 10 hyperparasitoid species. The rate of hyperparasitism increased during the vegetation period and reached its peak in late summer. The most abundant hyperparasitoids were Alloxystid wasps, Asaphes spp. and Dendrocerus carpenteri. Species composition (relative abundance and constancy) of the primary parasitoids and the hyperparasitoids showed remarkable correspondences in the two growing seasons 1986 and 1987.
