TL;DR: In this paper, a flowchart-based approach is used to build a logical structure for a customer relationship management (CRM) system, which comprises an ordered set of questions and branching logic that are presented to a customer of the business when the customer contacts the business with an inquiry.
Abstract: A flowchart-based tool can be used to build a logical structure. In the context of a customer relationship management (CRM) system, the logical structure can comprise an ordered set of questions and branching logic that are presented to a customer of the business when the customer contacts the business with an inquiry, such as for a sale or service inquiry or other interaction. An engine can run a session associated with the logical structure, with the session presenting questions, text, graphics, and the like dynamically to customer across a network, such as the Internet and a web site. Branching logic determines the appropriate information to present to the user based on answers to previous questions. The engine allows presentation of the information to the user/customer, by generating hypertext markup language (HTML) files to display the questions or other elements of the logical structure as part of a user interface on a client terminal of the customer.

TL;DR: In this article, the Lookout system for scheduling and meeting management is presented, which allows engineers to enhance human-computer interaction through an elegant coupling of automated services with direct manipulation.
Abstract: Recent debate has centered on the relative promise of focusing user-interface research on developing new metaphors and tools that enhance users abilities to directly manipulate objects versus directing effort toward developing interface agents that provide automation. In this paper, we review principles that show promise for allowing engineers to enhance human-computer interaction through an elegant coupling of automated services with direct manipulation. Key ideas will be highlighted in terms of the Lookout system for scheduling and meeting management.

TL;DR: In this paper, the user interfaces with an electronic device such as a computer system by engaging a sensor with desired regions of an encoded physical medium, such as data-linked books, magazines, globe, or article of clothing.
Abstract: The present invention teaches a variety of methods and systems for providing computer/human interfaces. According to one method, the user interfaces with an electronic device such as a computer system by engaging a sensor with desired regions of an encoded physical medium. The encoded physical medium is preferably chosen to provide intuitive meaning to the user, and is thus an improved metaphor for interfacing with the computer system. Suitable examples of the encoded physical medium include a data-linked book, magazine, globe, or article of clothing. Some or all of the selected regions have had certain information encoded therein, information suitable for interfacing and controlling the computer system. When the user engages the sensor with a region having certain encoded information, the certain encoded information is interpreted and an appropriate action taken. For example, the sensor or the computer system may provide suitable feedback to the user. The encoded physical medium may have text and/or graphic illustrations that draw the user in or provide meaningful clues or instructions perhaps related to the encoded information. The sensor may have at least one identification number (ID) providing information such as user identity, sensor type, access type, or language type. The sensor can transmit the certain decoded information together with the at least one ID to the computer system.

TL;DR: In this article, an object-oriented scripting interface to a mature density functional theory code is presented, which gives users a high-level, flexible handle on the code without rewriting the underlying number-crunching code.
Abstract: The authors have created an object-oriented scripting interface to a mature density functional theory code. The interface gives users a high-level, flexible handle on the code without rewriting the underlying number-crunching code. The authors also discuss the design issues and advantages of homogeneous interfaces.

TL;DR: In this article, an XSLT style sheet is automatically generated to filter out data pertaining to UI objects that were not voice or pass-through enabled, such as screens, views, applets, columns and fields.
Abstract: A method and system that provides filtered data from a data system (16). In one embodiment that system includes an API (application programming interface) and associated software modules to enable third party applications to access an enterprise data system. Administrators are enabled to select specific user interface (UI) objects (72), such as screens, views, applets, columns and fields to voice or pass-through enable via a GUI (108) that presents a tree depicting a hierarchy of the UI objects (72) within a user interface of an application (14). An XSLT style sheet is then automatically generated to filter out data pertaining to UI objects (72) that were not voice or pass-through enabled. In response to a request for data, unfiltered data are retrieved from the data system and a specified style sheet is applied to the unfiltered data to return filtered data pertaining to only those fields and columns that are voice or pass-through enabled.
