Abstract: A method and apparatus for the specification and automatic generation of user interfaces of information system (computer programs) is provided. The method is based in pattern language to specify requirements in an un-ambiguous mode and with precise semantics. The pattern language allows a user interface model to be composed using elements of the pattern language (computer objects in the object oriented programming style) which fully specify the desired user interface. The semantics of the objects in the user interface model have one and only one definition such that user interface model can be validated in a validation process. The validation process eliminates bugs in the final computer program code which is automatically produced from the user interface model. A model (metamodel), an editor tool (computer program) implementing the model for creating specifications of the user interface model, DTD specification, code generators, and other artifacts are depicted and described here for obtaining such user interfaces for different platforms (computers and operating systems) and different programming languages without manual coding of the computer code to implement the user interface. The software obtained is ready to run and it is able to communicate with a business server component using a standardized Application Programmatic Interface (API).

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for performing domain-specific knowledge based metasearches is presented for accessing a searching text-based documents using generic search engines while simultaneously being able to access publication based databases and sequence databases as well as in-house proprietary databases and any database capable of being interfaced with a web interface so as to produce search results in text format.
Abstract: A system and method for performing domain-specific knowledge based metasearches. A metasearch engine is provided for accessing a searching text-based documents using generic search engines while simultaneously being able to access publication based databases and sequence databases as well as in-house proprietary databases and any database capable of being interfaced with a web interface so as to produce search results in text format. A data mining module is also provided for organizing raw data obtained by unsupervised clustering, simple relevance ranking, and categorization, all of which are done independently of one another. The system is capable of storing previous search data for use in query refinement or subsequent searches based upon the stored data. A search results collection browser may be provided for analyzing current browsing patterns of the user for developing weighting factors to be used in ordering the results of future searches.

TL;DR: A novel Publisher-Subscriber architecture for collecting and processing users' activity data is presented, several different user interfaces tried with TaskTracer are described, and the possibility of applying machine learning techniques to recognize/predict users' tasks is discussed.
Abstract: This paper reports on TaskTracer --- a software system being designed to help highly multitasking knowledge workers rapidly locate, discover, and reuse past processes they used to successfully complete tasks. The system monitors users' interaction with a computer, collects detailed records of users' activities and resources accessed, associates (automatically or with users' assistance) each interaction event with a particular task, enables users to access records of past activities and quickly restore task contexts. We present a novel Publisher-Subscriber architecture for collecting and processing users' activity data, describe several different user interfaces tried with TaskTracer, and discuss the possibility of applying machine learning techniques to recognize/predict users' tasks.

TL;DR: In this article, an efficient and personable way to manage mobile coupons in a mobile operating environment and provide increased value and utility for a user of such coupons is described. But this method is limited to mobile devices.
Abstract: Providing for management of a dynamic mobile coupon (DMC) at a mobile device is described herein. Particularly, dynamic characteristics associated with the DMC, such as a redeemable value, can be utilized to browse, sort, search, recall, or redeem the DMC utilizing a user interface of the mobile device. In other aspects, a DMC management application can interact with server components to backup and store DMC data, synchronize dynamic information (e.g., a dynamic redeemable value), access or manage a user profile, interface with other mobile devices to accomplish sharing, trading, exchanging, selling the DMC, and so on. Accordingly, provided is an efficient and personable way to manage mobile coupons in a mobile operating environment and provide increased value and utility for a user of such coupons.

TL;DR: In this paper, a user interface method and apparatus for a mobile terminal having a touchscreen is presented, which improves interactivity using a toolbar menu mode screen which allows a user to execute functions and commands with drag and drop behaviors on the touchscreen to graphical objects such as toolbar, icons and other active objects.
Abstract: A user interface method and apparatus for a mobile terminal having a touchscreen are provided. The apparatus and method improve interactivity using a toolbar menu mode screen which allows a user to execute functions and commands with drag and drop behaviors on the touchscreen to graphical objects such as toolbar, icons, and other active objects. An interface apparatus includes a touchscreen unit that displays a screen including a second region for presenting a toolbar having at least one User Interface (UI) element representing a specific function and a first region for activating, when the UI element is dragged from the toolbar and dropped in the first region on the touchscreen, the function represented by the UI element. The interface apparatus also includes a control unit which detects a drag and drop action of the UI element and activates, when the drag and drop action is detected, the function associated with the UI element in the form of an active function object. The interface apparatus of the present invention registers the frequently used functions with the toolbar in the form of icons such that, when an icon is dragged from the toolbar to the main window, the function represented by the icon is activated.
