TL;DR: In this article, an event logging system is provided for an interactive entertainment network system having a headend or content provider interconnected via a distribution network to multiple user interface units, where each user interface unit has an event evaluator to determine whether an event is a loggable event.
Abstract: An event logging system is provided for an interactive entertainment network system having a headend or content provider interconnected via a distribution network to multiple user interface units. Each user interface unit has an event evaluator to determine whether an event is a loggable event. The user interface unit can be dynamically reconfigured to choose different groupings of events for logging. Loggable events are reported to an event log manager at the headend over the distribution network. The event logging system is designed so that the user interface unit does not need to know the exact location of the event log manager at the headend. The event log manager selects an appropriate database to store event information pertaining to the reported event. The database selection is based upon the kind of event being logged. The database might be local at the headend or remote therefrom. The event logging system is also designed to permit the operator to reconfigure where the events are actually logged to promote flexibility in resource allocation.

TL;DR: In this paper, a mobile device is used to make payments using the payment accounts on the mobile device and authorization to proceed with a payment is performed before each purchase made by the user.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to making payments with a mobile device. In one example process, the mobile device receives and stores information for one or more payment accounts on the mobile device. The mobile device is used to make payments using the payment accounts. In some examples, authorization to proceed with a payment is performed before each purchase made by the user. The authorization process can include receiving a verification of the user, such as a fingerprint scan or passcode. In some examples, a payment account is selected from among available payment accounts. In some examples, an indication is displayed of a digital item associated with a purchased item. In some examples, a payment transaction is initiated with participants of an ongoing communication. In some examples, an application of a retailer is invoked based on the availability of the application. In some examples, a purchase recommendation is provided.

TL;DR: A systematic process from requirements elicitation through formal specification, user interface prototyping, rigorous design, and coding is used to deliver a highly reliable system that meets all its throughput and usability goals.
Abstract: Praxis Critical Systems recently developed a secure certification authority for smart cards that had to satisfy performance and usability requirements while meeting stringent security constraints. The authors used a systematic process from requirements elicitation through formal specification, user interface prototyping, rigorous design, and coding to ensure these objectives' achievement. They show how a process that achieves normal commercial productivity can deliver a highly reliable system that meets all its throughput and usability goals.

TL;DR: In this paper, a speech manager interface allows the speech recognition process and the text-to-speech process to be accessed by other application processes in handheld electronic devices such as a personal digital assistant (PDA).
Abstract: A handheld electronic device such as a personal digital assistant (PDA) has multiple application processes. A speech recognition process takes input speech from a user and produces a recognition output representative of the input speech. A text-to-speech process takes output text and produces a representative speech output. A speech manager interface allows the speech recognition process and the text-to-speech process to be accessed by other application processes.

TL;DR: In this article, a digital downloading jukebox system including a mechanism for delivering custom services to a recognized user, including services for creating playlists, communicating with others, accessing other features, etc.
Abstract: A digital downloading jukebox system including a mechanism for delivering custom services to a recognized user, including services for creating playlists, communicating with others, accessing other features, etc. is provided. In some exemplary embodiments, after a user is recognized, the jukebox system allows users to access a special front-end via an Internet-enabled device or on an actual jukebox. Then, the user may, for example, create playlists, share songs with friends, send messages to friends, and access other value-added content. Such a system preferably learns about networks of friends, and enables managers to send similar messages to regular customers and/or others known to the system. In some exemplary embodiments, changes via a first user interface on a first device are reflected on second user interface on other properly-configured devices.
