TL;DR: In this article, a storage device configuration manager is implemented in software for a computer system including a processor, a memory coupled to the processor, and at least one storage device coupled to a processor.
Abstract: A storage device configuration manager implemented in software for a computer system including a processor, a memory coupled to the processor, and at least one storage device coupled to the processor, can advantageously allow a user having relatively limited knowledge to configure storage devices for use with specific applications. The storage device configuration manager includes a user interface allowing for selecting, editing, deleting, and/or activating storage polices. The storage policies include information useful for configuring the storage device to operate efficiently with a particular application, or within a particular user environment. The information is used by a policy engine to configure the storage device, thereby reducing the knowledge and effort required by a user.

TL;DR: In this article, a system comprising a user interface which can access downloaded electronic programs and information records related to said programs, which can be continually updated and provided over cable or satellite transmission paths or other "fast data" paths, and which can automatically correlate the program information with the preferences of the user, to create and display at least one personalized information database based upon the results of the correlation.
Abstract: A system comprising a user interface which can access downloaded electronic programs (e.g. pay per view movies) and information records related to said programs, which can be continually updated and provided over cable or satellite transmission paths or other "fast data" paths, and which can automatically correlate the program information with the preferences of the user, to create and display at least one personalized information database based upon the results of the correlation.

TL;DR: A map-based personalized recommendation system which reflects user's preference modeled by Bayesian Networks (BN) and infers the most preferred item to provide an appropriate service by displaying onto the mini map.
Abstract: As wireless communication advances, research on location-based services using mobile devices has attracted interest, which provides information and services related to user's physical location. As increasing information and services, it becomes difficult to find a proper service that reflects the individual preference at proper time. Due to the small screen of mobile devices and insufficiency of resources, personalized services and convenient user interface might be useful. In this paper, we propose a map-based personalized recommendation system which reflects user's preference modeled by Bayesian Networks (BN). The structure of BN is built by an expert while the parameter is learned from the dataset. The proposed system collects context information, location, time, weather, and user request from the mobile device and infers the most preferred item to provide an appropriate service by displaying onto the mini map.

TL;DR: A method for developing user interfaces by refining them iteratively over several versions, which not only eliminates problems of this nature, but also allows designers to take advantage of any insights into user needs that emerge from the tests.
Abstract: A method for developing user interfaces by refining them iteratively over several versions is presented. Each iteration is subjected to user testing or other usability-evaluation methods designed to uncover usability problems. This method not only eliminates problems of this nature, but also allows designers to take advantage of any insights into user needs that emerge from the tests. The author describes four case studies where the median improvement in overall usability from the first to the last iteration was 165%, and the median improvement per iteration was 38%. >

TL;DR: Implementing the Responsive Workbench required close attention to several important elements: its components, a typical setup, the user interface, feedback speed and real-time rendering.
Abstract: In this virtual environment, customized scientific visualization tools offer specialists new ways to work cooperatively, which opens the door to more comprehensive analysis and, perhaps, reduced costs. Implementing the Responsive Workbench required close attention to several important elements: its components, a typical setup, the user interface, feedback speed and real-time rendering. >
