TL;DR: In this paper, a new approach is proposed that contemplates systems and methods to support user identity verification based on social and personal information of the user, where customers/users are required to grant identity verifying party a degree of access to their social network information, including account data and social graph information on social networks.
Abstract: A new approach is proposed that contemplates systems and methods to support user identity verification based on social and personal information of the user. Under the approach, customers/users are required to grant identity verifying party a degree of access to their social network information, including but not limited to, account data and social graph information on social networks. The identity verifying party then acquires information of a current or potential user's online presence in addition to other information of the user and utilizes such information to verify the user's identity in the real world and/or to assess the fraud risk of a specific financial transaction requested by the user.

TL;DR: In an information retrieval method and apparatus, a specific user model is formed for a specific users based at least upon the specific user's own selection data as discussed by the authors, and information is subsequently retrieved based on the group user model.
Abstract: In an information retrieval method and apparatus, a specific user model is formed for a specific user based at least upon the specific user's own selection data. A plurality of specific user models formed for respective users are registered, and a group user model is formed on the basis of the plurality of specific user models. Information is subsequently retrieved based on the group user model. The group user model may be formed by selecting a maximum, minimum or average value of the plurality of specific user models.

TL;DR: A formal user evaluation of the system provides encouraging evidence that this mixed-initiative approach is preferred to a purely adaptable alternative and that the system's suggestions help improve task performance.
Abstract: We describe a mixed-initiative framework designed to support the customization of complex graphical user interfaces. The framework uses an innovative form of online GOMS analysis to provide the user with tailored customization suggestions aimed at maximizing the user's performance with the interface. The suggestions are presented non-intrusively, minimizing disruption and allowing the user to maintain full control. The framework has been applied to a general user-productivity application. A formal user evaluation of the system provides encouraging evidence that this mixed-initiative approach is preferred to a purely adaptable alternative and that the system's suggestions help improve task performance.

TL;DR: This paper brings together research from two different fields – user modelling and web ontologies – in attempt to demonstrate how recent semantic trends in web development can be combined with the modern technologies of user modelling.
Abstract: This paper brings together research from two different fields – user modelling and web ontologies – in attempt to demonstrate how recent semantic trends in web development can be combined with the modern technologies of user modelling. Over the last several years, a number of user-adaptive systems have been exploiting ontologies for the purposes of semantics representation, automatic knowledge acquisition, domain and user model visualisation and creation of interoperable and reusable architectural solutions. Before discussing these projects, we first overview the underlying user modelling and ontological technologies. As an example of the project employing ontology-based user modelling, we present an experiment design for translation of overlay student models for relative domains by means of ontology mapping.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a front end to a database search engine or engines that process a user query to generate a new search request that will more effectively retrieve information from the database that is relevant to the query of the user.
Abstract: The invention provides, inter alia, front ends to a database search engine or engines, that process a user query to generate a new search request that will more effectively retrieve information from the database that is relevant to the query of the user. To this end, in one embodiment the systems can be realized as computer programs present to a user interface to a user and which prompt the user to enter one or more key phrases that are representative of a user search request or user query. The user interface can collect the key phrases provided by the user and can analyze these key phrases to identify at least one meaning that can be associated with this user query. The systems can then process the user query and the identified meaning to generate an expanded search request that can be represented as a boolean search strategy. This boolean search strategy can then be processed to create one or more expanded user queries that can be presented to a search engine to collect from a search engine information that is relevant to the interest of the user.
