Abstract: An Accessible User Interface is designed or tailored specifically to a user's disability to maximize access to information. Cross-functional Product Design allows for a manageable subset of core features needed by people with disabilities to access information contained in print and electronic media. An Accessible Feature Design Template is an item-by-item description of the specific features that must be considered when designing an Accessible User Interface product including low vision, blind, learning disabled, mobility impaired, deaf and hard-of-hearing. The Accessible User Interface includes specific features that are matched to the individual's specific needs. The Accessible User Interface of the present invention includes embodiments tailored to each individual's disability or disabilities to provide a person with certain types of sensory, cognitive, or physical disabilities to access a computer or electronic device in a manner functionally equivalent to the user interface experienced by the non-disabled user.

Abstract: Collaborative Filtering (CF) systems have been researched for over a decade as a tool to deal with information overload. At the heart of these systems are the algorithms which generate the predictions and recommendations.In this article we empirically demonstrate that two of the most acclaimed CF recommendation algorithms have flaws that result in a dramatically unacceptable user experience.In response, we introduce a new Belief Distribution Algorithm that overcomes these flaws and provides substantially richer user modeling. The Belief Distribution Algorithm retains the qualities of nearest-neighbor algorithms which have performed well in the past, yet produces predictions of belief distributions across rating values rather than a point rating value.In addition, we illustrate how the exclusive use of the mean absolute error metric has concealed these flaws for so long, and we propose the use of a modified Precision metric for more accurately evaluating the user experience.

Abstract: A system and method is provided to facilitate communication and collaboration by considering the timing of a user's activities on one or more clients via accessing, from a centralized server, information about the user's client-server interactions. The systems and methods can harness existing protocols and data exchange used in legacy client-server applications for email, making available to one or more client-side message routing applications, information about a user's interactions with email across multiple clients. Applications include considering the time since the last client-server interaction to guide decisions about if, when, and how to route messages so as to limit the mobile relay of information a user has already seen, providing information to colleagues about a user's current or past “inbox presence,” and forecasting the time until a user will have access to a device or communication channel.

According to one aspect of the present invention, the system informs and educates the user about a particular product or service which the user is interested in and enables the user to efficiently purchase the product or service. The system is also configured to offer personalized transactional benefits to the user based on the amount and/or type of personal information that is provided by the user.
