TL;DR: It is stressed that this disease should be highlighted in Japan where colonic diverticular disease is gradually increasing and represents 0.8-5.4% of all fistulae caused by colonic diverticulitis.
Abstract: A case of sigmoid-uterine fistula caused by sigmoidal diverticulitis is reported with some discussion from a review of the literature. A 78-year-old woman was seen at the hospital because of a left lower abdominal pain and stool from the vagina. There was a slight tenderness in the left lower abdomen, but no muscular defense was noted. On barium enema examination, multiple diverticula were found but a fistula was not found. Hysterosalpingography revealed a sigmoid-uterine fistula. The diagnosis of the sigmoid-uterine fistula was made and a one-stage radical surgery was performed. Colouterine fistula is rare and represents 0.8-5.4% of all fistulae caused by colonic diverticulitis. It is also stressed that this disease should be highlighted in Japan where colonic diverticular disease is gradually increasing.
