TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a new way of understanding logistics and supply chain processes, which enables executives to gain all impacts lying in the Supply Chain Finance (SCF) approach, enabling them to understand and role of the supply chain actors as well as their mutual relationships.
Abstract: While the integration of material and information flows within the supply chain has long been discussed in the science community and tested in practice, it is therefore now that the flow of financial resources is increasingly drawing the centre of attention. Following this new way of understanding logistics and supply chain processes, the task of supply chain managers begins with the financing and capital budgeting decisions of supply chain investments and ends only after the payment from the customer is received. The challenges arising with this development bring along a new understanding and role of the supply chain actors as well as their mutual relationships. New inter-functional and inter-organizational tasks at the intersection of finance and logistics open new areas of business for banks as well as financial and logistics service providers. This paper can be understood as a first step enabling executives to gain all impacts lying in the Supply Chain Finance (SCF) approach.

TL;DR: In this article, the impact of two different dimensions of supply chain integration on two aspects of firm performance in the emerging economy of China is investigated. And the moderating effects of market orientation on the relationship between supply chain Integration and firm performance are explored.
Abstract: Purpose – The present paper aims to investigate the impact of two different dimensions of supply chain integration on two aspects of firm performance in the emerging economy of China. In addition, the moderating effects of market orientation on the relationship between supply chain integration and firm performance are explored.Design/methodology/approach – Data were obtained from a survey administered to 246 firms in the manufacturing and services industry in China. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses.Findings – Operational coordination is positively associated with operational performance and business performance. Information sharing affects only operational performance; it has no impact on business performance. Furthermore, the results provide empirical support for the moderating effects of market orientation on the association of supply chain integration and firm performance.Originality/value – The current paper contributes knowledge on the value‐realizing mechanism of supp...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue for the collection of new statistics, in addition to reworking and linking existing data sets, in order to analyze global value chains more directly and provide a better map of the value chain, reveal the roles that domestic establishments, firms, and industries play within GVCs.
Abstract: This article contributes to an assessment of the scholarly work of Sanjaya Lall, especially as it relates to improved measures of industrial upgrading and technological learning. We argue for the collection of new statistics, in addition to reworking and linking existing data sets. Changes in the global economy, especially the rise of global value chains (GVCs), have created measurement problems that require not only continued innovation in the use of existing data sources, but also the development and deployment of new measures that analyze GVCs more directly. Specifically, we advocate for the collection of establishment-level economic data according to business functions. Data collected according to a standardized set of generic business functions can provide researchers and policymakers with a better map of the value chain, reveal the roles that domestic establishments, firms, and industries play within GVCs, and offer a unique view of the competitive pressures facing domestic firms and industries.

TL;DR: In this paper, an empirical survey with data from 128 companies was conducted to test the relationship between product design and supply chain design, with specific reference to the product-supply chain model by Fisher.
Abstract: Purpose – The paper seeks to test the relationships among product design and supply chain design, with specific reference to the product‐supply chain model by Fisher.Design/methodology/approach – An extensive empirical survey with data from 128 companies; the approach is basically theory testing, in that it investigates an existing framework, and discusses extensions.Findings – Significant relationships are found between product types and supply chain types, as well as concerning the impact of alignment on performance.Research limitations/implications – Instead of treating the supply chain characteristics associated with different supply chain types as either/or choices, some companies select properties from both supply chain types in order to gain additional benefits. This creates a supply chain frontier of physical efficiency and market responsiveness; a concept that deserves further attention by researchers. A limitation is that it would be interesting to perform a longitudinal study.Practical implicat...
