TL;DR: This paper delineates customers' value structure and manufacturers' service value activities, and then it is discussed how the current manufacture value chain structures affect service value- creating processes.
Abstract: Service has become an important value-created and competitive instrument in manufacturing industries under the background of knowledge-economy and globalization of economics. It is manufacturers and their customers together in the interactive value-creating processes who create the service value, not manufacturers themselves in their factories. Contrarily to traditional manufacture stream, service value creation processes start with customers' satisfaction and their willing-to-paid value and trace back to arrange or organize the value activities again. In this paper, we delineate customers' value structure and manufacturers' service value activities, and then we discuss how the current manufacture value chain structures affect service value- creating processes. In order to capturing more service profit, manufactures must redesign their service value chain. It is composed of relative basic and auxiliary activities that interact and form a circle close chain. The most important tache in the transformation from traditional manufacture managing patterns to service management patterns is the joint of push and pull, which also is the connection of two different orientations activities. Manufacturing firms must link series of inside value activities into an organic integrated body and aim for servicizing. Finally, we set an example of service innovation and value stream re- engineering in a manufacturer of power generating equipment in China and expatiate how they create and appropriate serve value in the new value structure.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide a comprehensive explanation of consumer behavior, utility maximization and optimal choice, profit function, cost minimization and cost function, and discuss important topics such as function analysis systems techniques, value index, value measurement techniques, innovative phase and constraints analysis in depth.
Abstract: Covering detailed discussion of fundamental concepts of economics, the textbook commences with comprehensive explanation of theory of consumer behavior, utility maximization and optimal choice, profit function, cost minimization and cost function. The textbook covers methods including present worth method, future worth method, annual worth method, internal rate of return method, explicit re-investment rate of return method and payout method useful for studying economic studies. A chapter on value engineering discusses important topics such as function analysis systems techniques, the value index, value measurement techniques, innovative phase and constraints analysis in depth. It facilitates the understanding of the concepts through illustrations and solved problems. This text is the ideal resource for Indian undergraduate engineering students in the fields of mechanical engineering, computer science and engineering and electronics engineering for a course on engineering economics/engineering economy.

TL;DR: A framework to automate the value engineering process and integrate it into selecting building materials and shows the six most important criteria affecting the process of selecting interior doors for buildings: fire resistance, acoustic insulation, humidity resistance, aesthetic, durability, and maintenance.
Abstract: The selection of building materials from various available alternatives is a critical process affected by many complicated factors. Every single element in a building has a specific function to perform. This necessitates a proper selection of material from the various available alternatives, which generally differ in their quality, performance, and cost. To make the most practical choice, the owner wants the building's function to perform with maximum quality at the minimum possible cost, and this is the principle of value engineering. Therefore, a determination has been made to identify the criteria impacting selecting each element and how close it is to achieving the project's goal. Each alternative has been evaluated, and its quality, and cost scores have been calculated. Implementing a value engineering process is challenging, and it needs much effort and many brainstorming sessions to be achieved. Therefore, this study has proposed a framework to automate the value engineering process and integrate it into selecting building materials. Moreover, this process was accelerated and facilitated by using innovative computer technology such as building information modeling (BIM) that has been widely used in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. The scientific paper touched on determining the evaluation of the elements of choosing the doors and determining the criteria affecting their quality by conducting a field survey with specialized engineers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to know the factors affecting the selection of doors. The scientific paper also reviewed the case study of a hospital buildingwhere the elements of the building's internal doors are chosen from among eight alternatives using the proposed evaluation processes. And then, chose the building information model as a database that facilitates information entry and selected from the available alternatives. The results were shown automatically and gave a summary of them. The research results showed the six most important criteria affecting the process of selecting interior doors for buildings: fire resistance, acoustic insulation, humidity resistance, aesthetic, durability, and maintenance. Based on this study, the best alternative for interior doors to buildings will be chosen from among the eight available alternatives. This methodology will make it easier for the decision-maker to choose the appropriate section according to the previous criteria. Key words: Alternatives, factors, criteria, value engineering, BIM, fire resistance, acoustic insulation, humidity resistance, aesthetic, durability, maintenance.
