Abstract: Value engineering,focusing on the analysis of product functions,realizes the necessary functions of products dependably at the lowest cost expenditure,thus increasing the value of products.With function evaluation at the core,it deals with the dialectical relationship between function and value and between technology and economy better,thus making up the deficiency in designing.Therefore,applying value engineering in optimizing design programs can solve the control problems of project cost well and select out optimum design plan.

Abstract: Design stage is the key stage of investment control in highway engineering. The advantages and disadvantages of design scheme quality will directly influence the whole effect of project investment and application. This paper applies value engineering to compare the technical economy of design schemes of highway engineering, comprehensive analysis the conditions of function and cost to optimize the optimal scheme, and verify the reliability of application value engineering in optimizing design scheme of highway engineering by actual engineering example.

Abstract: In the design and planning of office spaces, sound masking systems are often considered optional because of an owner/occupier requirement due to an understanding that can create a more pleasing and private acoustic environment or are required to provide adequate speech privacy. Installations are rarely considered on the basis of project value engineering or return on investment. In this paper, the authors argue that sound masking systems should in fact be considered as another important cost component of the office design, and evaluated along with ceiling tile, private office wall construction and workstation design for their mutual impact on the project budget, as well as on their contribution to acoustical performance. The authors provide typical project data to demonstrate masking systems typically result in overall project cost savings.

Abstract: As the human-centered product design has been emphasized as one of differentiated marketing factors, the products developed with the factors related to human characteristics are on an upward trend. Current development for the human-centered products is based on PPP(Product Performance Program) and UD(Universal Design) cases, but the products often results in being highly expensive so that a few of customers benefit from them. To achieve less expensive UD products, the initial stage of the product development needs to include value engineering (VE) that provides analysis tools for UD functions and their costs. This study presents UD development process integrated with VE.
