TL;DR: In this article, the authors used Function Analysis System Technique (FAST) method which consists of five stages, namely information, creative, analysis, development and presentation/recommendation stages.
Abstract: In a bakery, an operator needs a working tool for bread production process. To avoid injury and inconvenience the tool should be suitable and appropriate for the operator's body posture and workload. Operators' assistive device produced is trolley rack. Value engineering approach is carried out on this tool to identify and develop its functions in achieving the balance among cost, reliability and appearance of the product. The work-plan is divided into several development stages: creative stage, analysis stage, development stage and recommendation stage. Product value is determined by comparing between product benefits and product costs. This study employs Function Analysis System Technique (FAST) method which consists of 5 stages, namely information, creative, analysis, development and presentation/recommendation stages. The recommendation stage explains the best alternative design. The results show that alternative II has the highest performance value which is 97.16 and the highest rating of 0.45. It is rated as the best design and has good product durability.

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors present a technique that analyses the value in use of the commodity and how to reduce the cost of production, affecting the desired functions like quality and performance from the engineering economics point of view.
Abstract: While the price of a commodity is a preferable factor to motivate a customer to purchase, what ultimately satisfies the customer is the desired function it serves. Value engineering, which is one of the foremost tools of engineering economics, analyzes which of the designed features are superfluous adding to the cost but not to the desired performance. This chapter discusses this technique that analyses the value in use of the commodity and how to reduce the cost of production, affecting the desired functions like quality and performance from the engineering economics point of view, together with a case study.

TL;DR: The paper identifies the tools needed to engineer the service system to inspect it and position it within the commercial scheme and the principle of effective design and evaluation will be stated and defended as the fundamental means of achieving the value of service to both clients and the providing company.
Abstract: As products have become commoditised and technology knowledge made available to all, the possession of customers has become crucially dependent on the service content of what is delivered. Initially service was seen as an add-on aspect of business and to be highly personalised to customers and employees alike. But the significance of service to justify price, to support brand, to enrich the product, even to learn about the customer, means that the service concept and the service delivery must be managed even if such management is much less well defined than physical product and process management. This paper sets out to establish the possibility of designing both the content of service value and the service system which is needed to provide it. Following the analysis of service itself, the paper identifies the tools needed to engineer the service system to inspect it and position it within the commercial scheme. The McDonald’s operation and others will be used to illustrate the concepts and their application. The principle of effective design and evaluation will be stated and defended as the fundamental means of achieving the value of service to both clients and the providing company. The conditions for successful adoption of the principles will be identified.

TL;DR: Considering the current situation of budget software of the universities cost major in western areas of Chongqing, we can select the cost-effective budget software through the determination of functional evaluation coefficient, cost coefficient and value coefficient by introducing value engineering as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: With the popularity of computerization in project cost industry, it has become one of the necessary professional skills for project cost personnel to be familiar with series of project cost software. To choose and buy targeted budget software in a college construction cost major can help lay a solid foundation for the students before work. Considering the current situation of budget software of the universities cost major in western areas of Chongqing, we can select the cost-effective budget software through the determination of functional evaluation coefficient, cost coefficient and value coefficient by introducing value engineering.
