TL;DR: In this article, the value elements of maintenance service solutions should be identified and quantified wherever possible, and the value of a solution should be justified in economic terms, e.g. by achieving energy savings or increasing the availability of a production system.
Abstract: For a customer of industrial maintenance solution providers, purchasing a solution is an asset management option that needs to be justified, preferably in economic terms, e.g. by achieving energy savings or increasing the availability of a production system. Therefore, the value elements of maintenance service solutions should be identified and quantified wherever possible.

TL;DR: For the purpose of analysing the capability (knowledge, experience, and ability) of CM at risk in the major construction company in Korea, a study performed questionnaire survey with experts in the companies as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: For the purpose of analysing the capability (knowledge, experience, and ability) of CM at Risk in the major construction company in korea, this study performed questionnaire survey with experts in the companies. Based on the analysis of the survey, the study was found as follows. 1) It is needed to increase the capability of preconstruction services, such as project management plan/manual, contract documents, value engineering, alternative analysis, time management, and claim. 2) Despite of gap of the capability between the present and the future CM services, the study concluded that the capability is sufficient to perform CM at Risk project in the major construction company.

TL;DR: In this paper, the PV value analysis using PV value matrix that focused on both individual value attributes and stakeholder perspective is presented for grid-connected distributed resource (DR) application is the fastest growing market for photovoltaics.
Abstract: Photovoltaics, the modular, versatile, market-ready distributed generator, is gaining share in the electric service market. The grid-connected distributed resource (DR) application is the fastest growing market for photovoltaics (PV). PV may be the ultimate distributed resource (DR) due to its modularity, resource availability and independence on fossil fuel. As a distributed resource, PV attributes include the usual values of being near the load, and offsetting generation, distribution, and transmission losses and capacity requirements. PV-DR also has unique values of modularity, independence on fossil fuel price volatility, no environmental emissions or noise, and a generation profile caused by the same resource as the system load peaks. However, these tangible values are often spread out several stakeholders and it is difficult for the PV system investor to collect the full value potential for the investment. This paper presents the PV value analysis using PV value matrix that focused on both individual value attributes and stakeholder perspective.

TL;DR: The results suggest that identifying competitive price and customers’ needs, entering the global competition, reducing prime cost of products, motivation and teamwork of the staff, using value engineering and activity-based costing are necessary for the successful implementation of target costing in Iran.
Abstract: Target costing is one of the most effective methods in cost management. As a useful and efficient management tool, it has a comprehensive approach for managing costs, reducing prime cost of products in the initial stage of product planning and design, and achieving long-term profit. The present study attempts to investigate the use of target costing and its implementation method in Iran. For this purpose, the study has been conducted through the methods of field and library studies. The results suggest that identifying competitive price and customers’ needs, entering the global competition, reducing prime cost of products, motivation and teamwork of the staff, using value engineering and activity-based costing are necessary for the successful implementation of target costing.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the philosophical linkage between value engineering, function analysis and innovation and the economic imperative businesses bring to modes of engineering consideration, using Heidegger's attack on Descartes' 'I think therefore I am' and the assumptions such logic brings to the central question of an individual existence among the existences of everything else.
Abstract: This paper moves beyond the competence focus of mainstream value engineering training (e.g. Miles 1989, Techniques of Value Engineering and Value Analysis; Kaufman 1990, Value Engineering for the Practitioner), such books achieve their training goal well but lack the pedagogic aim we argue in this paper. This paper achieves our aim by describing the philosophical linkage between value engineering, function analysis and innovation and the economic imperative businesses bring to modes of engineering consideration. This philosophical underpinning uses Heidegger's attack on Descartes' ‘I think therefore I am’ and the assumptions such logic brings to the central question of an individual existence among the existences of everything else. Rather than singularly focusing on ‘what’ or ‘that’, Heidegger calls upon us to consider ‘how and why’ as a product of ontological functioning. However, we do not seek to replace Cartesian rationalism with Heidegger's phenomenological methods, as the latter does have several a...
