TL;DR: In this paper, the populations of excited states in the vapours of barium and calcium produced by the flash pyrolysis technique have been investigated by means of the hook method.
Abstract: The populations of excited states in the vapours of barium and calcium produced by the flash pyrolysis technique have been investigated by means of the hook method. For low-lying states (within about 2 eV of the ground state) the populations some 500 mu s after the beginning of the pyrolysis flash were found to follow the Boltzmann distribution at a temperature which for our particular experimental conditions was about 5000 K. The reproducibility is such as to make this a suitable source for the determination of relative oscillator strengths for lines originating on these low-lying levels. The degree of ionization, however, is significantly below that to be expected in thermal equilibrium at this temperature.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method for qualitative and quantitative detection of organic compounds or solvents in air, where a sensitive layer (3) containing at least one polymer is applied to a transducer.
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for the qualitative and/or quantitative detection of organic compounds or solvents in air, wherein a sensitive layer (3) containing at least one polymer is applied to a transducer. The sensitive layer (3) further contains at least one softener.

TL;DR: In this article, the selective evaporation of the matrix elements as bromides with bromine vapours in a simple apparatus was carried out at 280-300 ° C and it was accomplished for 0.5 g sample within 1 h. Reproducibilities of 5 to 20% were obtained.
Abstract: Gallium arsenide samples are analyzed by graphite furnace AAS after the selective evaporation of the matrix elements as bromides with bromine vapours in a simple apparatus. The evaporation step is carried out at 280–300 ° C and it is accomplished for 0.5 g sample within 1 h. Reproducibilities of 5 to 20% were obtained. Detection limits (3 s, in ng/g) are 20 (Fe), 5.0 (Ca), 3.0 (Mg), 2.0 (Ni, Cu), 1.0 (Al), 0.5 (Pb, Co), 0.2 (Mn, Cr).

TL;DR: In this paper, a spiral exchanger is used to recover heat from combustion products in an Incinerator for removing odorous organic vapours entering exhaust gas stream incorporating a spiral recuperator.
Abstract: Incinerator for removing odorous organic vapours enters exhaust gas stream incorporating a spiral exchanger which acts as a recuperator to recover heat from the combustion products. A burner is used to control the rate of oxidation of the vapours. Vapours in an air concentration below the lower explosive limit need to be heated to 800 degrees C for effective oxidation. The amount of fuel required to achieve this is reduced by repheating the exhaust air in this spiral recuperator which also has compact construction.
