Abstract: The cost of product water is a key factor in determination of acceptability of any desalination system and plant. In case of Sea Water Reverse Osmosis plants, most of the energy consumed is in the form of electricity. The High Pressure Pump (HPP) is the single major energy consuming equipment with a share of above 75%. Hence reduction in energy consumed by HPP will have a substantial effect on the overall energy consumption. The high starting torque requirement of high pressure pump results in increased acceleration time of the motor which subsequently increases the strain on the upstream electrical system from motor feeder to transformer. Provision of a Variable Frequency Drive can be a solution for both the above problems. This paper studies the techno-economic feasibility of providing variable frequency drive for HPP motor at NDDP, Kalpakkam.

Abstract: The utility model provides a variable-frequency drive with an automatic voltage stabilization function. The variable-frequency drive with the automatic voltage stabilization function comprises a rectification unit, a filtering unit, an inverse variation unit, a driving unit and a micro-processing unit. The rectification unit, the filtering unit and the inverse variation unit are connected in sequence, and the micro-processing unit, the driving unit and the inverse variation unit are connected in sequence. The variable-frequency drive further comprises a detection unit and a voltage stabilization unit. The detection unit comprises a voltage detection unit and a current detection unit. The inverse variation unit adopts a plurality of IGBT switch arrays to form an inverse variation circuit, the output ends of the IGBT switch arrays are respectively connected with the micro-processing unit, the micro-processing unit is provided with a comparison module and a driving module, the comparison module is used for comparing voltages output by the IGBT switch arrays, and the driving module is used for controlling the voltage stabilization unit to work. The variable-frequency drive with the automatic voltage stabilization function can automatically stabilize the output voltages in rated operational voltages of a motor under the condition that the output voltages are not stable.

Abstract: The cooperative effort is described of equipment manufacturers, the process plant designer and the ultimate user to specify and design a compressor system that was driven by a 10, 500 horse­ power induction motor that was controlled by a variable frequency drive (VFD) system. A design methodology is presented which avoids the potential of VFD system harmonics from coinciding with system mechanical torsional frequencies. Certain VFD harmonic frequencies that could not be detuned from system torsional frequencies were evaluated for steady state synchronous response.
