TL;DR: The design of a three-phase induction motor test bed is presented which measures the efficiency of the motor according to the International standards and simulation results of Electric drive are presented.
Abstract: Although, in Pakistan the electric motor industry is indigenous one, meeting all its demand and requirement through local production, but the percentage share of motors exported is quite minimal. The primary reason for this is that in international market there are specific standards and minimum efficiency criteria that should be met before exporting the motors. But the local Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) of Pakistan are unable to produce standard complaint motors because there is no such facility available in Pakistan that can give compliance certificates. This paper presents the design of a three-phase induction motor test bed which measures the efficiency of the motor according to the International standards. The standard experimental procedure for measuring the efficiency of 175 W induction motor according to IEEE 112 standard is discussed and results are presented. Moreover, simulation results of Electric drive are also discussed and presented.

TL;DR: An improved rotor-side variable frequency drive (RVFD) based on PFC technique is proposed in this paper, it can remove the influence caused by diode rectifier, it is simple circuit, less large devices, better power factor and smaller harmonics.
Abstract: To solve the difficulty of medium voltage variable frequency drive of fan or pump, a technique, rotor-side variable frequency drive (RVFD), is introduced that a less power (0.2-0.3P/sub N/) low voltage (<400 V) IGBT converter is used to adjust speed of a full power medium voltage (6-10 kV) motor. The features of the technique are: simple circuit, less large devices, better power factor and smaller harmonics. An improved RVFD based on PFC technique is proposed, it can remove the influence caused by diode rectifier.

TL;DR: In this article, a system for controlling a linear alternating current (AC) electrodynamic machine (500) with a variable frequency drive (VFD) was presented. But the VFD was not coupled to the stationary part of the linear AC electrodynamynamics machine.
Abstract: A system (500) for controlling a linear alternating current (AC) electrodynamic machine (400) includes a linear AC electrodynamic machine (400) with a stationary part (410) with a plurality of discrete stationary sections (412, 414, 416), each stationary section (412, 414, 416) having a poly-phase circuit; a variable frequency drive (VFD) (510) configured to be coupled to a utility power source and to provide output currents, wherein the VFD (510) is operable coupled to the stationary part (410) of the linear AC electrodynamic machine (400) for powering and controlling the stationary sections (412, 414, 416) of the stationary part (410); and a plurality of switches (512, 514, 516) coupled between the VFD (510) and the stationary part (410), wherein the plurality of switches (512, 514, 516) allow connecting or disconnecting the VFD (510) to or from the stationary sections (412, 414, 416).

TL;DR: In this article, a large signal model of variable frequency drive (VFD) motor based on switching function is established and the switching function was treated continuously by using Fourier series.
Abstract: Nowadays, variable frequency drive (VFD) system is more and more widely used in induction motor (IM) systems. Due to the characteristics of VFD motor are different from that of IM, if the traditional load model based on IM is adopted as usual, the credibility of power system transient stability analysis will be challenged. Therefore, the large signal model of VFD motor based on switching function is established and the switching function is treated continuously by using Fourier series. In this model, diode bridge rectifier with LC filter is replaced by a cascaded system consisting of a controlled rectifier with constant DC pulse period and constant conduction angle and Boost chopper with small duty cycle, and the switching functions of the controlled rectifier and Boost chopper are obtained. The proposed model is compared with the detailed simulation model of the VFD motor established in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The results show that the proposed large signal model can effectively describe the characteristics of the VFD motor when large disturbance occurs, which is helpful for the transient stability analysis.

TL;DR: In this article, a variable frequency drive active harmonic mitigation control and diagnostics is described. But the authors do not specify a diagnostic fault condition based on a number of occurrences of the error condition.
Abstract: Variable frequency drive active harmonic mitigation controls and diagnostics are disclosed. Exemplary controls and diagnostics include operating a variable frequency drive including converting an AC input line voltage to a DC voltage, generating a motor drive signal using the DC voltage, and driving an electric motor with the motor drive signal. A harmonic mitigation signal is provided to the drive configured to at least partially mitigate harmonics during the operation of the drive. The harmonic mitigation signal is inhibited based upon presence of an error condition associated with the drive input. The inhibiting is terminated based upon the absence of the error condition. A diagnostic fault condition based upon a number of occurrences of the error condition.
