Abstract: The ectoparasitic honey bee mite Varroa destructor was originally confined to the Eastern honey bee A cerana After a shift to the new host A mellifera during the first half of the last century, the parasite dispersed world wide and is currently considered the major threat for apiculture The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of limonene composition on mites in honeybee colonies, A mellifera L with little brood in order to reduce mites population to tolerable levels The results showed that, the reduction effects of V deatructor and T clareae in the treated colonies with fumigant and smoking pesticide materials limonene composition, respectively The application of these strategies enables beekeepers to keep the V destructor and T clareae infestation below the damage threshold with reasonable additional labor and, at the same time, it assures high quality bee products

Advances in Research on Classification and Major Species of Bee Mites

Abstract: The mites that parasitize honey bees have become important pests in the world. With the increasing damage to the beekeeping and fluvalinate-resistant mites have appeared, the mites have attracted more and more attention. This paper described the progress in study of the mites. ① The species of bee mites is reviewed; ②The distribution,biology, damage of Acarapis woodi, Varroa destructor and Tropilaelaps spp. are summarized, along with control methods; ③Mite-associated bee pheromone; ④ Mite-associated bee diseases have also been reviewed. Finally, general direction of research on bee mites are analyzed and discussed.
