TL;DR: A new secret sharing scheme with meaningful shares using (k,n)-threshold visual cryptography and digital watermarking for grayscale images based on bit plane encoding is proposed in this paper, that encrypts agrayscale secret image in such a way that results of encryption is in the form of shares.
Abstract: Visual Cryptography Scheme (VCS) is an encryption method that works on human visual system. It encrypts a secret image into n shares and decryption can be done only by stacking k or more share images without any computation. A new secret sharing scheme with meaningful shares using (k,n)-threshold visual cryptography and digital watermarking for grayscale images based on bit plane encoding is proposed in this paper, that encrypts a grayscale secret image in such a way that results of encryption is in the form of shares. Shares do not reflect any information directly, information is scrambled instead. Firstly, an image is decomposed into its bit plane images that generate a binary image at each bit plane. Secondly, the traditional binary secret sharing scheme is used to get the sharing images. Finally, a proposed watermarking technique is used to generate meaningful shares. To decrypt hidden secret image, extract the shares from the cover image and decompose each share into bit planes and then secret grayscale image is reconstructed. This scheme provides a more efficient way to hide images in different meaningful shares. Furthermore, the size of the hidden secret can be recovered by inspecting the blocks in the shares.

TL;DR: An overview of the emerging Visual Cryptography techniques used in the secure transfer of the medical images over in the internet using a binary logo which is used to represent the ownership of the host image which generates shadows by visual cryptography algorithms.
Abstract: Security has become an inseparable issue even in the field of medical applications. Communication in medicine and healthcare is very important. The fast growth of the exchange traffic in medical imagery on the Internet justifies the creation of adapted tools guaranteeing the quality and the confidentiality of the information while respecting the legal and ethical constraints, specific to this field. Visual Cryptography is the study of mathematical techniques related aspects of Information Security which allows Visual information to be encrypted in such a way that their decryption can be performed by the human visual system, without any complex cryptographic algorithms. This technique represents the secret image by several different shares of binary images. It is hard to perceive any clues about a secret image from individual shares. The secret message is revealed when parts or all of these shares are aligned and stacked together. In this paper we provide an overview of the emerging Visual Cryptography (VC) techniques used in the secure transfer of the medical images over in the internet. The related work is based on the recovering of secret image using a binary logo which is used to represent the ownership of the host image which generates shadows by visual cryptography algorithms.

TL;DR: The main advantage of the proposed cryptographic algorithm is the robustness and low computational cost with structure simplicity, and the proposed algorithm outperformed the conventional methods when tested over sample images proven using key analysis, SSIM and histogram analysis tests.
Abstract: Visual cryptography is considered to be a vital technique for hiding visual data from intruders. Because of its importance, it finds applications in various sectors such as E-voting system, financial documents and copyright protections etc. A number of methods have been proposed in past for encrypting color images such as color decomposition, contrast manipulation, polynomial method, using the difference in color intensity values in a color image etc. The major flaws with most of the earlier proposed methods is the complexity encountered during the implementation of the methods on a wide scale basis, the problem of random pixilation and insertion of noise in encrypted images. This paper presents a simple and highly resistant algorithm for visual cryptography to be performed on color images. The main advantage of the proposed cryptographic algorithm is the robustness and low computational cost with structure simplicity. The proposed algorithm outperformed the conventional methods when tested over sample images proven using key analysis, SSIM and histogram analysis tests. In addition, the proposed method overshadows the standard method in terms of the signal to noise ratio obtained for the encrypted image, which is much better than the SNR value obtained using the standard method. The paper also makes a worst case analysis for the SNR values for both the methods.
