TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a process and a device for the centrifugal control and mixing of a limited volumes of fluid, especially in the rotor of a centrifugal analyzer, has at least one baffle chamber, in a flow canal for the fluid the volume of which is greater than the volumetric volume of fluid.
Abstract: A process and a device for the centrifugal control and mixing of a limited volumes of fluid, especially in the rotor of a centrifugal analyzer, has at least one baffle chamber, in a flow canal for the fluid the volume of which is greater than the volume of fluid. It is so shaped that, when the device is rotated at a sufficiently high first speed of rotation, the fluid remains in it. An outlet canal is connected to the baffle chamber the fluid. At least a part thereof lies closer to the axis of rotation than the fluid surface during the rotation with the first speed of rotation. The walls of the outlet canal consist of a material which is wettable by the fluid and, in combination therewith, have cross-section which forces the fluid out of the baffle chamber; by boundary surface force when the device is rotated at a second, slower speed.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for determining the level of particulate contamination within the fluid of a hydraulic system is described, where a non-return valve is introduced into a space where it is contained by a piston and the structure of the piston includes relatively movable parts defining a restricted orifice to which fluid, having passed through a drilling in the piston, may escape to drain.
Abstract: Apparatus and method for determining the level of particulate contamination within the fluid of a hydraulic system. System fluid is introduced through a non-return valve into a space where it is contained by a piston. The structure of the piston includes relatively-movable parts defining a restricted orifice to which fluid, having passed through a drilling in the piston, may escape to drain. When the piston is moved so as to tend to reduce the trapped volume, fluid is expelled from the volume through the drilling and clearance until the clearance becomes blocked by contaminants. The degree of contamination may then be derived from the distance that the piston has moved. The separate parts of piston structure are then relatively-moved to clear the orifice and allow the rest of the trapped fluid to escape, after which the orifice is reset and another volume of fluid introduced to be tested. The piston may be driven by reaction with the system fluid, or alternatively by means independent of that fluid. The specification describes alternative means for measuring the distance travelled by the piston, alternative piston structures to define the orifice, and alternative arrangements of the device as a whole relative to the hydraulic system as a whole.

TL;DR: In this article, a device is provided for the control and mixing of a fluid current subjected to centrifugal force in an element rotating about an axis, especially the rotor of a centrifugal analyser, the amount of fluid to be con-trolled having a limited volume.
Abstract: OF THE DISCLOSURE A device is provided for the control and mixing of a fluid current subjected to centrifugal force in an element rotating about an axis, especially the rotor of a centrifugal analyser, the amount of fluid to be con-trolled having a limited volume wherein, in a flow canal for the fluid, there is provided at least one baffle chamber, the volume of which is greater than the maximum volume of fluid and is so shaped that the fluid, in the case of a rotation of the element with a sufficiently high first speed of rotation, remains in it and an outlet canal is connected to the baffle chamber which canal is so con-structed and arranged that at least a part thereof lies closer to the axis of rotation than the fluid surface during the rotation with the first speed of rotation, the walls of which consist of a material wettable by the fluid and the cross-section of which is so constructed that the fluid, in the case of a second speed of rotation, which is smaller than the first speed of rotation, is forced by boundary surface force into the outlet canal; a process is also provided for the control and mixing of a current of fluid subjected to centrifugal force in an element rotating about an axis in the above device, wherein the fluid is driven with a speed of rotation which results in a centrifugal acceleration, which is greater than the gravitational acceleration, into the baffle chamber and, after the expiry of the desired period of residence in the baffle chamber, the speed of rotation is reduced to such an extent that the fluid, driven by boundary sur-face force, fills the outlet canal connected with the baffle chamber, the device and process are particularly useful in chemical and clinical analysis of fluids, for example, body fluids in clinical investigations.
