TL;DR: In this paper, an analytical and numerical solution for the elastic-plastic stress distribution in rotating variable thickness solid and annular disks is obtained under plane stress assumption, where the thickness of the disk is assumed to vary radially in elliptic form which represents a wide range of continuously variable nonlinear cross-sectional profiles.
Abstract: Analytical and numerical solutions for the elastic-plastic stress distribution in rotating variable thickness solid and annular disks are obtained under plane stress assumption. The thickness of the disk is assumed to vary radially in elliptic form which represents a wide range of continuously variable nonlinear cross-sectional profiles. Tresca's yield criterion and its associated flow rule are used to obtain analytical solutions for a linear hardening material. A computational model is developed to obtain solutions using the von Mises yield criterion, deformation theory of plasticity and a Swift-type hardening law. Both linear and nonlinear hardening materials are considered in solutions obtained by using von Mises criterion. The stresses, displacement and plastic strains are calculated for solid and annular disks rotating at different speeds and the results are presented in graphical forms.

TL;DR: In this paper, the superelastic response of NiTi shape memory alloys under various loading conditions is experimentally investigated using thin-walled tube specimens, and the isotropic relation between the elastic and shear moduli of austenite and martensite as well as the von Mises stress and strain equivalency are also studied in uniaxial tension and pure torsion.
Abstract: The superelastic response of NiTi shape memory alloys under various loading conditions is experimentally investigated using thin-walled tube specimens. The isotropic relation between the elastic and shear moduli of austenite and martensite as well as the von Mises stress and strain equivalency are also studied in uniaxial tension and pure torsion. In addition to proportional loading, several non-proportional loading experiments based on both force and displacement control modes are conducted. Axial and shear stress–strain behaviors as well as effective stress–strain curves during proportional and non-proportional loadings are investigated. Experimental results in proportional loading based on displacement (strain) control indicate that a smooth hardening in transformation regions occurs, while a relatively sharp hardening takes place in force (stress) control. This phenomenon shows that in the stress control, a small stress increment causes a large strain increment while, in the strain control, a small strain increment corresponds to a small stress increment during the transformation. Experimental results in multi-axial loading show that the loading path and the loading control mode affect the mechanical response of NiTi tube. Furthermore, several combined tension-torsion experiments are conducted, and the mechanical coupling between tension and torsion in thin-walled tubes is investigated.

TL;DR: In this article, the structural and morphological changes in the cut section were examined using the optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques, and the residual stress remains high in the region close to the cutting section.
Abstract: Laser cutting of tailored blanks from a thick mild steel sheet is considered. Temperature and stress field in the cutting sections are modeled using the finite element method. The residual stress developed in the cutting section is determined using the X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and is compared with the predictions. The structural and morphological changes in the cut section are examined using the optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It is found that temperature and von Mises stress increase sharply in the cutting section, particularly in the direction normal to the cutting direction. The residual stress remains high in the region close to the cutting section.

TL;DR: In this paper, the initial plastic deformation behavior of zirconium alloy fuel cladding was described quantitatively by the deformation system of single crystal of α-zirconsium, and a model was proposed to simulate the yield behavior of polycrystalline material.
Abstract: Initial plastic deformation behavior of zirconium alloy fuel cladding was described quantitatively by the deformation system of single crystal of α-zirconium, and a model was proposed to simulate the yield behavior of polycrystalline material. Based on the model, effects of crystallographic texture and stress state on the plastic deformation of the cladding were evaluated. Conclusions obtained from this investigation are: (1) The proposed model shows good agreement with the von Mises' yield criteria for a material with isotropic properties. (2) Plastic anisotropy of the cladding decreases when neutron irradiation affects prism slip more strongly than the other deformation systems. (3) Dominant deformation systems for axial tension or internal pressurization of the cladding are predicted to be prism slip or tensile twin, respectively, when the stress state of the cladding reaches the yield condition.

TL;DR: Experimental results show that the best-in-focus noise-free images are associated with the highest values for the von Mises distribution concentration parameter and the highest approximation of image data to the vonMises distribution model.
Abstract: An innovative way of calculating the von Mises distribution of image entropy is introduced in this paper. The von Mises distribution’s concentration parameter and some fitness parameter that will be defined later have been analyzed in the experimental part for determining their suitability as an image quality assessment measure in some particular distortions such as Gaussian blur or additive Gaussian noise. To achieve such measure, the local Renyi entropy is calculated in four equally spaced orientations and used to determine the parameters of the von Mises distribution of the image entropy. Considering contextual images, experimental results after applying this model show that the best-in-focus noise-free images are associated with the highest values for the von Mises distribution concentration parameter and the highest approximation of image data to the von Mises distribution model. Our defined von Mises fitness parameter experimentally appears also as a suitable no-reference image quality assessment indicator for no-contextual images.
