Abstract: The bioengineering and medical and biomedical fields are ever closer, and they manage to obtain surprising results for the development of new devices. The field of simulations and studies in silica has undergone considerable development in recent years, favoring the advancement of medicine. In this manuscript, a study was carried out to evaluate the force distribution on the implant components (In-Kone® Universal) and on the peri-implant tissues subjected to loading. With the finite element analysis and the Von Mises method, it was possible to evaluate this distribution of forces both at 0 degrees (occlusal force) and at 30 degrees; the applied force was 800 N. The obtained results on this new type of connection and on all the implant components are satisfactory; the distribution of forces appears optimal even on the peri-implant tissues. Surely, studies like this help to obtain ever more performing devices, improving both the clinic and the predictability of rehabilitations.

Abstract: The concept of a strength tensor, analogous to the tensor of elastic constants, has been introduced with a view to using its components for approximate determination of laws governing the variation of strength of anisotropic materials in uniaxial tension or pure shear as a function of the orientation of the stress state. It has been shown that the plasticity condition postulated by Mises can be used as a criterion of strength of many "weakly" anisotropic materials, if one rejects the hypothesis according to which the condition is invariant in respect to hydrostatic pressure. In the case of "strongly" anisotropic materials, wood in particular, the Mises condition is at variance with the results obtained for variously oriented specimens tested in uniaxial tension. A strength condition in the form of a fourth-degree polynomial, based on the assumed existence of a strength tensor analogous to the tensor of elastic constants, has been postulated for these materials. The validity of this criterion has been demonstrated by constructing surfaces of equicritical plane stress states from experimental data obtained for pine wood, plywood, and glass-reinforced plastic laminates.

Abstract: The finite element technique is applied to analytically predict the response of a disc made of BPA-polycarbonate during a displacement-controlled puncture test with a hemispherical indenter. The analysis includes effects of contact load, large displacements and rotations, and large strains and material yielding. Two general topics are addressed with this analysis. First, it is shown that the load-displacement behavior of impacted, BPA-polycarbonate plates can be accurately predicted over a wide range of engineering interest (strains up to 30 percent) using a bilinear representation of the stress-strain curve and flow theory of plasticity. For this purpose, the von Mises criterion is applied to define yielding in a generalized biaxial stress state, and strain rate effects are incorporated through the use of a yield stress consistent with the initial strain rate during the test. Second, in order to broaden the understanding of results associated with this widely used test, a number of mechanical and material effects are discussed, including large displacements, friction at the clamped support and indenter head, and clamping pressure at the support. Lack of agreement between the present analysis and experimental results with regard to ultimate load at puncture suggests that strain hardening and strain rate hardening of the material during the high-strain portion of the test (30 percent-60 percent) must be more accurately modeled for improved predictive capability.
