TL;DR: The results suggested that the activation of antioxidants in M. aeruginosa played an important role to resist the stress from gramine at initial time, and the inactivation of SOD is crucial to the growth inhibition.

TL;DR: Bremi et al. as discussed by the authors explored the anisotropy of rapid fluctuations of the peptide planes in ubiquitin by combined 15N and 13C nuclear spin relaxation measurements and molecular dynamics (MD) computer simulation.
Abstract: The anisotropy of rapid fluctuations of the peptide planes in ubiquitin is explored by combined 15N and 13C‘ nuclear spin relaxation measurements and molecular dynamics (MD) computer simulation. T1, T2, and NOE data were collected at B0-field strenghts corresponding to 400 and 600 MHz proton resonance. A 1.5-ns simulation of ubiquitin in an explicit water environment was performed using CHARMM 24. The simulation suggests that, for 76% of the peptide planes, the relaxation-active motion of the backbone 15N and 13C‘ spins is dominated by anisotropic Gaussian axial fluctuations of the peptide planes about three orthogonal axes. The dominant fluctuation axes are nearly parallel to the − axes. The remaining peptide planes belong to more flexible regions of the backbone and cannot be described by this type of motion alone. Based on the results of the computer simulation, an analytical 3D GAF motional model (Bremi, T.; Bruschweiler, R. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1997, 119, 6672−6673) was applied to the experimental relax...

TL;DR: In this paper, a zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) was explored for the removal of trace arsenate from water, and the results showed that ZIF8 outperformed some other adsorbents and owned the first and highest reported adsorption capacity (76.5 mg g−1) at a low equilibrium concentration (9.8 μg L−1).
Abstract: The development of highly efficient adsorbents, especially those aimed at the capture of trace (ppb, 10–9) arsenate, is one of the principal challenges in the water treatment field. In this article, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) was explored for the removal of trace arsenate from water. Results showed that ZIF-8 outperformed some other adsorbents and owned the first and highest reported adsorption capacity (76.5 mg g–1) at a low equilibrium concentration (9.8 μg L–1). Satisfactory adsorption properties (adsorption capacity, adsorption rate, adaptability to water environment, regeneration capacity) demonstrated the feasibility of using ZIF-8 as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of aquatic trace arsenate. In addition, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra revealed the proposed mechanism of As(V) adsorption onto ZIF-8: producing large amounts of external active sites (Zn–OH) through the dissociative adsorption of water and subsequently forming an...

TL;DR: A novel analytical method based on solid-phase extraction (SPE) and liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS) for the determination of UV sunscreen agents in the water environment is presented, where benzophenone-4 (BP-4) was identified as one of the most important in concentration among the UV filters studied, particularly in wastewater.
Abstract: A novel analytical method based on solid-phase extraction (SPE) and liquid chromatography−electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (LC−ESI-MS/MS) for the determination of UV sunscreen agents in the water environment is presented. After a thorough investigation of SPE and LC−MS/MS conditions, it permits the enrichment and determination of nine of these compounds in a single methodology, including three very polar sulfonates (e.g., 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulfonic acid, PBSA) and six other less polar compounds (e.g., benzophenone-3, BP-3; octocrylene, OC,...). Other important matters of concern in the determination of UV filters at trace levels in water, i.e., adsorption on glassware and blank contamination problems, have also been discussed and minimized. This methodology affords detection limits between 7 and 46 ng L-1 and SPE recoveries in the range 63−102% from different real water matrixes, except for butylmethoxydibenzoylmethane (BM-DBM), which was not determinable in wastewater samples due to...
