Abstract: Stokes' linear irrotational wave theory is employed to obtain expressions for wave forces on a hemisphere or a sphere, a horizontal halfcylinder or cylinder, a vertical cylinder, and a rectangular block whose dimensions are small compared to the wave length. The incident undisturbed wave is considered in the evaluation and the Froude-Krylov forces are obtained in simple closed forms. A multiplier is included in each expression to account for the diffraction of waves from the body of the submerged object.
