TL;DR: Men, women and families can all benefit from gender equitable work-life balance- that is time to spend with family and opportunities to progress in careers as discussed by the authors, and there is mounting evidence that businesses can benefit too from implementing changes that simultaneously take account of the work life needs of men and women employees.
Abstract: “Work-life balance” has become a hot topic in recent years in many parts of the world. The topic of work-life balance is not new, but reflects research and debates dating back to the 1960s on how women and men can combine work and family in gender equitable ways (Rapoport and Rapoport, 1965). It could be argued that women have come a long way since then: dual earner families are increasingly the norm across the industrialised world, and most countries have policies on equal opportunities for men and women, maternity and parental leave and other related policies. Yet most women continue to retain the major responsibilities for family care, and to be underrepresented at the highest levels in workplaces. Women have made great strides forwards, but things will not change further for women until men can be enabled to change too. Men, women and families can all benefit from gender equitable work-life balance- that is time to spend with family and opportunities to progress in careers. Moreover, there is mounting evidence that businesses can benefit too from implementing changes that simultaneously take account of the work life needs of men and women employees and the needs of the organisation (Rapoport, Bailyn, Fletcher and Pruitt, 2002) However, there are currently many constraints and barriers to gender equitable ways of combining work and family. In this paper I discuss some of these barriers and the changes that are needed at various levels of society to enable more men as well as women to harmonise work and family. I will conclude with some examples of workplace changes designed to include men.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify the major dimensions that influence the quality of work life of employees of an organization in Indian perspective and propose some appropriate quality-of-work life programmes based on their nature of the business in order to provide better quality of working life to their work force.
Abstract: Today every organization from small to large is forced to give more importance to their human resources since they are the deciding factor of their conquest and crash in this busy and hi tech world. The organizations concentrate more in acquiring and retaining the most competent and contemporary work force so that they can achieve as well as survive their success in long run. One such dynamic tool that helps the organization to cover their employees is “The Quality of Work Life”. This paper is an attempt to identify the major dimensions that influence the quality of work life of employees of an organization in Indian perspective. The factors like work environment, organization culture and climate, compensation and reward, welfare facilities, training and development, adequacy of resources, relation and co-operation, freedom of work, job satisfaction and job security, work life balance can be used to measure the extent of quality of work life enjoyed by the employees of any organization. Some appropriate quality of work life programmes can be adopted by the organizations based on their nature of the business inorder to provide better quality of work life to their work force.

TL;DR: This paper explored the situation and trends in regard to work-life balance among working men and women in 2017, with a special focus on the stress experienced in work and personal lives, and provided insight into family policy that could promote balance in professional and personal life and relationships.
Abstract: Work-life imbalance might lead to detrimental outcomes, including family dissatisfaction, poor performance in the workplace, and poor mental and physical health. This population-based study aims to explore the situation and trends in regard to work-life balance among working men and women in 2017, with a special focus on the stress experienced in work and personal lives. Descriptive analysis and multiphase regression are used to explore the associations of work-life imbalance with individual and family factors. Males’ satisfaction with the amount of time spent at work was most significantly related to the level of work-life stress. Both males’ and females’ satisfaction with work life, family life, and the amount of time spent at work and with family were all negatively related to the level of work-life stress. Participants who were not in marital or cohabiting status reported significantly higher levels of work-life stress. Participants who had childcare support reported higher levels of work-life stress than those who looked after their children by themselves or their partners. A similar pattern was found among participants involved in elderly care. This study provides insight into family policy that could promote balance in professional and personal life and relationships.
